D.O. Morale?

The Same. No union involement, managers do as they like. Hour off the working week, D2D's in work load but no walked altered to take that into account. Very late finish all days including saturday. Last letter 15:05hrs this week. 5 hours latter than when I 1st started as a postie. Progress?

Its been quite low for a while now. Five lots of D2D and absorbtion 5 days a week take their toll

Moral in office is GREAT finish 2hr before we are meant to, hardly any d2d, 11 o'clock finish on Saturday, great manager etc. We all love working for Royal Mail and are awaiting getting our photo in that great paper "THE COURIER" so come on smile and thank your lucky stars you work for a company which is well run and you are treated with respect.

Morale seems okay at my office all things considered. However, this is an office that still clings to job and finish, has not yet undertaken its revision, and has plentiful overtime on offer as well as a number of rounds (not mine) that can be completed in two and a half hours every day. So meh. I'm sure it will go downhill (morale, I mean) quite rapidly once we start entering reality. Personally, I'm beginning to hate the job, slowly but surely. Couldn't give a frak if I was turfed out tomorrow, except for the money. Not that there are no things about the job that I like, nor do I hate the job with a vehemence. I just dislike the way things are, the way things are done, the ways in which the paper is being shoved into the cracks, then blu-tacked, then given a dab of pritt stick afterwards for good measure. Quite frankly, it's not working by any other means than hope and prayer at the minute.

I had so much more faith in the postal system before, when I didn't see how it worked. I feel almost as if I've reached the seminal moment in life where you realise that, actually, there probably isn't a God, that all existence may very well be meaningless, and everything hereafter has little point other than to slowly, without purpose, count down the seconds to the end of time (be it your time, or all time). A child has a naive faith in things that is no better reflected in how they a) believe in God and b) still welcome the postman with a warmth and gratitude that is not reflected in the hand of whichever parent they cling to. You see, God and postmen are a bit similar at times. We're like fairy tales, and fairy tales are so much better in their telling than in their reality. Royal Mail seems to be becoming a Brothers Grimm 'fairy tale', and I know that the future is only going to get worse.

I guess the point I'm trying to get across is that things, whilst they're acceptable at the minute, are inching day-by-day towards a bleaker future. There's nothing worse than knowing that tomorrow is going to be worse than yesterday and so on and so forth. The present is tolerable, but the future? I was always told the future would be better. Especially for industries, such as ours purports to be. We will be growing more efficient, things will be fairer, and life will be easier and more automatic. From the whispers I'm hearing and reading (sometimes on here), we're heading in the other direction. I'm beginning to think that, once my six-month contract comes to an end, I'm best placed simply to walk away. I know a job is a job is a job, but there's a possibility that I shall become entrapped in a bleaker future. And I don't really see myself stuck in one place, staring into the previously outlined abyss. I see some people on here say 'get out whilst you can' to newbies and I'm beginning to wonder. Much is said in jest . . .

Morale is difficult to guage in my office, I know the morale dropped to non-existant a couple of years ago but now I think most people just don't care what happens, just as long we're paid then that's it.
It's interesting to see how few people do the OT anymore, there are only a handful who come in on their days off and even fewer who now do the collections.

Actually forget that, just noticed you finish at 11 on Saturdays, it's 10 for us and we're home well in time to get breakfast before the soccerette comes on

The funny thing is morale is rubbish because the revision is on the way and the walks are going to get around 40 mins longer with a later start time

Managers have had enough though, we're understaffed and hardly anyone does docket so they're out delivering until late afternoon every day

Most of us are at an non existent level and hate it now. Certain collegues still seem to think its great, 2 rounds out of the office are still on job and finish after the changes, the rest work our time and over everyday. You can guess the ones who think its great and come in on their day off and have time to do the afternoon collection stint. Tossers.

Dom makes my breakfast; Moya has taken to washing my smalls; and traffic is so low I've started to polish every letter box flap just to fill in time.
Bit concerned about my off shore accounts ,but all in all ,life is just a bowl of cherries

morale in ours is mostly the same,still the same r-sole of a manager who thinks he is running Stalag 17,taking what they dish out on the chin,lapsing flexibility etc. problem is our chins are taking so much we are clones of Bruce Forsythe,"nice to shaft you,to shaft you nice"

The Morale is pretty low,has been for some time,it is laughable really because they have just done the walks that are left through Geo-Route and they have come out the same as before,staff were of the opinion that the planners were going to take the mick again and of course they were right,we start later and the walks are way to big,we have had so many managers that we have lost count and now we have another slimmy ar**e DIM that thinks he knows it all & makes matters even worse,we are also being told on a daily basis that the mail is down but if you see the state of the office you would laugh,the DIM is always saying it's a staff problem "your not working hard enough" whilst 5 of these hard working managers stand there drinking tea-coffee at the end of the sorting frames for at least 2hrs and in that time they have not done a stroke other than crack funny's with each other.
The packets and mail that have not been delivered over goodness knows how many days stand in yorks like soliders standing on duty,the walks have mail not gone out or bundles that have come back laying all over them,we have part time staff doing full time hours because the walks are not part time and the staff who do them are so fed up because they only came into the job because it's part time you have to explain that you dont have to work over your hours just bring it back,so you can imagine how it is,last but not least the floor managers are now looking rather tense as the morning wears on as they know that they dont have enough vans to do the job so the arguments are going to start all over again,the thing with the vans is because the staff keep crashing them not that they have taken more vans out of the place,The DIM tells us so.So to round it up Moral is great,just like the job!
