Proposed Later Start Times

Further to the advice pack which was sent out on 18th July, I now attach a standard letter, which has been cleared legally that any member who believes later attendances are going to be imposed on them may wish to submit to his/her manager.

I also attach the latest correspondence with Royal Mail from which there appears to be an implication that they will not impose the changes on 13th August as had been previously threatened.

In addition, you will find attached the Union's formal response to Postcomm's current consultation on Delivery and Collection times.

I am very concerned by the significant changes to my working arrangements that you propose, and about the impact they will have on me, and that Royal Mail is proposing to impose these on me without any clear operational necessity and without any proper discussion, or agreement having been reached, with my trade union, CWU.

I expect you to discuss these proposals with my union on my behalf. Please may I have your written assurance that changes will not be implemented in any form at my office unless or until an agreement has been reached with the CWU representatives.

LATER START TIMES IN DELIVERY OFFICES

Although this Headquarters has not been specifically advised by Royal Mail, we are receiving information from all parts of the United Kingdom that Royal Mail is intending to take executive action on or before the 13th August to introduce later starts in Delivery Offices.

This is being confirmed in writing to our reps in some cases and in others through WTLL sessions.

As you know, Royal Mail’s proposal to implement later start and finish times without the agreement of this Union through the mechanism of the Industrial Relations Agreement is one of the several issues at the heart of the current dispute. I must now warn you that if, prior to the resolution of all the issues in dispute, Royal Mail implements later start and finish times unilaterally at any office this Union reserves the right, at those offices, to activate the Industrial Action for which it has a ballot mandate. If we are obliged to do that in respect of any of those offices, Royal Mail will of course receive the appropriate formal notice or notices of the further Industrial Action.

I accordingly call on you not to implement later start and finish times until all aspects of the current dispute (including this one) are resolved. The CWU remains ready, willing and able to negotiate further with a view to resolving the matters in dispute between us.

We are therefore seeking your acknowledgment that the Executive Action announced for 13th August will not, in fact, take place.

So what are the chances that the MDEC will have to change start times to accomadate the new mail times.

Not many people will be too happy about starting 45 to 60 minutes later than now, then the picket line breakers will complain.

i mean its now less than 2 weeks away aug 13th.. i think we have a disagreement in for it in our office but not heard what stage it might be at. We will prob be made to do it if vans not going to up with mail to sort we will all be standing about drinking tea..

i mean its now less than 2 weeks away aug 13th.. i think we have a disagreement in for it in our office but not heard what stage it might be at. We will prob be made to do it if vans not going to up with mail to sort we will all be standing about drinking tea..

We will probably be striking over it but according to our area rep it has been put on hold

i heard on the line this morning a small delivery office not very far from mine south M----- has already gone to a 7.00 am start time to 1500 finish no rep in office he resigned a few weeks ago

spoke to my DUM and he said hes not heard anything so we ok at the mo as i understand it you gotta have 4 weeks notice before they change any start times

There are some who work there who will not strike cause and I quote " I am a company man and don't agree with striking" even tho I have heardsome of these people voted for i/a but will not partake, instead leave it up to staff like myself so they can get the benefits without losing any money.IT MAKES ME f***ing MAD.

RM say that it only has to be delivered by mid afternoon but like all they say I don't believe them

I think it`s 2pm for town deliveries and
3pm for rural deliveries
