Hi there everyone. I'm a new Postie that is still going through the 6 month trial, currently 3 1/2 month into the trial. I have to say I really enjoy my job, even though there are late days... =( some day I finish around 3pm.... most days 1-2. It's a shame cause I got put onto different rounts all the time.

I am wouldn't mind if any more experienced posties can give me some tips, as training was not very detail finer workings of the job. My starting time is 7:35, but I go in at 7:00, still I can't get everything sorted and out of the office with everyone else.

Any how, just want to say hi to everyone!

Hi, and enjoy the rest of us on the sinking ship!

Your so called training is done and dusted, so you'll just learn along the way, just like the rest of us. It costs RM too much money to train nowadays, so your on your own now buddy.

The choice is yours if you want to work for free or work overtime. But no one can force you to work out with your contracted hours.

Although they can bully you into working more than your contracted hours and sack you for cutting off at the end of your hours because you didn't inform them in advance that you wouldn't finish in time. If you're not psychic enough to be able to predict the future, tough s**t. You get paid £8 an hour so sort your precognition skills out immediately.

Welcome to RM :)

Don't come in early... you're not being paid, they don't thank you for it so why do it?!

Don't worry about what time everyone else is going out. It takes time to get to "full speed" and if you're not doing the same round every day, it's going to take you longer.

If you think you're going to go over your time, tell your DOM before you go out. If they don't want to pay you overtime, then you ask if they want you to bring mail back, or leave it in the office for them to arrange an alternative delivery.

Also, as useless as they are, join the union. Always handy for a back up.

I go into the office early so I can get the mail out to the people as early as possible. The thing is if I thought about working just for the money it make the job harder and more depressing. My main motivation to work is for the people I'm delivering to, this way it's more posstive. =)

I do ask for putting my self down for overtime. However I would like to know how I am preforming, which I have yet to hear back from my line manager about my preformance, which lead me to think I'm under performing. Under performing seems to be the main focus in our work time learning... =(

What do you work for then if it's not for the money ....Try a charity shop you can do that for free ...You start by asking for advise then screw yourself by admitting your one who goes in early never mind your excuse it's a very feeble one .

Sorry... I just feel happier knowing the mail get there. I do work for the money, just that I feel much better not thinking at it that way.

=/ I guess that just my way to get through my days easier. =)

I think also that fact that alot of them people in the office seems to work way before their starting time, makes me feel like I should do the same.

I don't..... get my satisfaction knowing that NO manager will ever get one over me and i DO not work for free inside royal fail or ouside of royal fail my time is money that enables me to persue my hobbies and spend money the way i wish on the things i want ....it kind of makes the world go round you know

But doing work for free isn't helping the "greater good". Ask your manager to change your start time if you really want to get in earlier. You are basically, working for free which might be nice while you're still wearing the rose tinted glasses, but you'll feel such a mug when you realise you're doing yourself, and nobody else any favours.

I can understand completely what you're trying to say/do but it's honestly pointless. You're making a rod for your own back

I can understand you wanting to complete. But give it a little time and you will realise integrity is meaningless in the RM. The more you follow your conscience, the more the bosses will exploit it unfortunately. As the years of your life get sucked out of you by management you will learn that wise old saying "look after ya broooom!"

If you really want some useful advice, leave now before you become bitter and twisted like the rest of us. Get a proper job and never look back! RM is a company on a downward slope that treats its workers and customers like something they have stepped in. It's demoralising and degrading, go now please for your own sake!

=) thank you everyone!.... also take the advice to look for another job just incase. I spoke to a lady who is working in the post office during my pouch off. It seems like they are also getting the short end of the stick.

Oh will I guess a job is just a job. Speed will come.... just hope the I find a new way doin g this route... cause currently the way it's layout, you are expected to carry around 20kg bag for flats... =( I just have to dead walk back to the box. =)

finsihing time today... 2:50.... =) that with help... lol... need to rethink do some of this walk.

Will =) happy to hear all those advice, will work to my own time.
