Absorption

Anybody has day off - for whatever reason (rest day, sickness etc) walk is covered by about 6 colleagues. On top of their normal duty. For free. Therefore absolutely no docket in our office. Told this is agreement between RM and CWU. Could understand Summer absorption as workload fairly light but NOW??? Only docket available is if you work past your time - but cannot do this every F****ing day!!! We are all so tired, demoralised, unmotivated etc. Cut out and you face wrath of managers and threats of action. Used to really like my job.

If All of the staff would turn round and have the backbone to say NO, then rm would not be able to do a thing about it.They cannot sack/suspend everyone,the hue and cry from the public would be overwelming.The problem is that manegment threaten an induvidual and the rest start running round like headless chickens.YOU WILL ONLY DEFEAT THEM IF YOU ARE UNITED AND STAND TOGETHER AS A UNION

Most walks covered for day off, sickeness, whatever covered by 4 people on docket.almost without exception. If you're own delivery is 'optimised' and to capacity, how could you absorb or why shouild you absorb.
If you're making 1 or 2 hours a day well thats a dirrerent call

All absorbtion work is "as time allowed" so if your finishing before your time they are within the agreement to ask you to absorb. If you think that the extra will take you over your time inform a manager and ask him what he wants to do about it.

On heavy days in my office a few go over and book OT to complete the absorbtion.

the big problem has always been that the CWU in thier wisdom agreed that you should lapse BEFORE you do your own duty, this allows them to bully harrass and generally force people to absorb, whereas if they had insisted on doing it after you had finished your duty then they would have got less done, just like they agreed (locally) that you finish on the street, but wait if you finish on the street you wont be able to come back and absorb so do it before you go out, that way RM wins both ways fuc**n great thanks CWU

I think I've said this before on here but it won't do any harm to repeat it and see what others in different parts of the country say, but we are told that the lapsed duty has priority, now I dont know if thats right or wrong, but I do know that whatever I do not work over my time.

just do as the manager says to do it before or after then if you carnt complete its either overtime or you take it back cos job a nd finish is gone so wake up

Still do absorbtion in our office.
I come in at my proper start time, do IPS etc and, if I'm all tied up by 9.10am, I do my share.
However, if like today I'm not ready till after that time, I tell the Lino that I haven't got any spare time on my duty and can't do the absorbtion.

I don't have time for absorption, far too busy with my own walk to do O/T for sweet FA.

we are getting offered what we want to clear absorbtion in our office, boys getting an hour for 20 mins work, and last week, we were that understaffed, they were askin folk to cancel their annual leave and work the week, getting their week "some other time!"

We are also getting boys in from 60 miles away, comin 5 in a car- getting 12 hours each for 8 hours work, all getting 4 hours trvelling time each, in one car, you really couldnt make it up, we have 22 hour lads in early - getting paid 6 days a week, same wi the 30 hours, iv no had a day off for about 4 months, nightshifts, doing returnn letters, its a free for all, - im making hay whilst the sun shines thank you

What cracks me up is geo route and pegasus were supposed to make all walks equal, and staffing levels were to give us our day off, there would be "no overtime" nobody workin days off, and the manager oncee bellowed- ther will never be nightshift in this office again! (except every sunday, and 4 night a fortnight ago- fanny)
christ only knows what this new geo route will bring?

Lincox thats exactly the problem no standard across the board, you say you leave it till you come back and if you have time you do it, well try that in my office and you will find yourself in deep sh*t and no help from anybody, so when i say the CWU agreed i meant they have created the problem by leaving it up to individual offices to fight thier own corner and its like that with a host of other working practices up and down the country, but hey why worry just be like Dingo and slag of offices that are shafted and blame them for being weak

Any of you lot who absorb and have to cut off either the absorb part our your own walk have to say bollox,we aint doing it no more!!
If it's a regular thing the rep has to flag it to his ADR AND his DSM,stir some s**t ffs!
Mail is being delayed in the interest of savings!
Keep a diary of everything that is going on.

Keep a diary on everything regarding this 'absorbing'. If you do a 25 hour week then they know that they should not be asking or telling you to absorb, simply because there is NO TIME pencilled in to do any. Your duty is timed at a 5 hour day so there is NO time to do any more if you don't want to. If managers and some staff keep 'harassing you, then flag it up and don't be bullied.
Managers only persist on a course of action if they can justify it, but I have found that you can call their bluff on this because they know that they are abusing your good will. Politley tell them where they can take their 'request' to some one else who is being paid 8 hours and goes home after working only 6 hours like you, who only gets paid for 5hours.
