Has there ever been a more pointless D2D ?.

The other week I had to deliver a 2 D2D's which consisted of a) an offer from Virgin phones for a Blackberry b) An offer for solar panels. In this area i)70% of the inhabitants are over 65 yrs, ii) live in flats, of which 200 live in 19 storey high flats iii) The majority of the housing is local housing association iv) Its in the West of Scotland in one the areas of highest rainfall . Surely if D2D's are to be the great money spinner for the RM the elves in sales should be able to advise the customer on the right areas for thier products, as opposed to wasting their money and my time.

Know the feeling I am forever getting d2d's and mailshots for virgin services to an estate of over 700 houses who aren't able to get cable!

Train to be a plumber.....to the old folks home....the youngest is about 75.

A think this will beat it - A few times i've had D2D's to interest people in buying Conservatories and half the walk is flats - now if they can build these things 3 or 4 floors up i'd be amazed..

I don't know that there's much point in any of them. Do door-to-doors really drum up interest in a business? Is there a proven link between running a programme of d2d services and an increase in custom? As far as I'm aware, everyone I've ever given a d2d to deems them to be rubbish, barely looks at them in fact en route to putting them in the recycling bin. Obviously, it's bringing money in for RM, but it surprises me that companies pursue this line of advertising, presumably at considerable cost. I just don't see how it is effective, but I would be interested to know a bit more if I am indeed being ignorant.

I think it probably does for the places like Co Op when they have the latest deals in them etc.

There was a guy walking around here delivering leaflets for a local estate agents saying "Why wait until spring? Get moving this Autumn!" If I wanted to sell my house, I'd be selling it.

That's the whole point of D2Ds April...they don't convince you to do anything but when you do decide to sell your house the hope is you will remember that leaflet that has been lying in your junk drawer for a couple of months.
It's hit or miss but it does work.

I once had a D2D which was extremely specific to my walk - a pub just up the road advertising its new meal deals - surely that's the way to do it rather than the global sh*t you normally end up with ...

(and the number of times I end up following a small Chinese chappie chucking his menus through the doors - or rather doorstepping his menus in the letterboxes for me to push through )

Yes,so RM and others say.

Let's be honeset,they wouldn't send them if it didn't work,also and i know everyone hates them including me,but it's work for us.

Most people don't remember them as they are thrown in the bin straight away - just like I do!!

I'm sure thats true Postman, but if the elves who sell the concept to customers continue to make sure they are distributed to areas which are totally unsuited to the products and services being offered how long will it continue?. While this form of advertising in this day and age still has place, it is declining as a way of reaching the potential customer, because compared to e-advertising it is expensive and ineffective at reaching the target customers. As others have posted is there any point in delivering D2D's for Sommerfields to people who live in 250k + properties?.
