Tuesday - 11 bags
Wednesday - 13 bags
Thursday - 11 bags
Friday - 11 bags
Saturday - 9 bags

If your manager tells you mail is down, he is right. Most of it is down in my DO.
And if you've been waiting about 2 weeks for a packet, that is probably down at my DO as well.

Try putting more mail in your bags!!!

Joking aside- this issue really gets to me. The last 4 weeks have been non-stop mountains of mail. What the hell is going on? Do management and "spokespersons" and all the other ill-informed commentators say it to just enrage us, or are they all just that moronic? Just who is trying to fool who here? I've never been this knackered after a weeks work since Xmas pressure. Every bag I have is over 15kg and it ins't the packets creating that weight. And plese, don't go on about how I should split the bags down. You try doing a rural delivery with 2 bag drops on it 5 miles apart and keep splitting bags up. I've been finishing after 3pm every day as it is, I don't want to be out there in the dark.
Right now, I would love to meet Vince Cable face to face and ask him about the mail volumes. And then punch him hard in the face.

....collections is the only thing you're allowed to class as mail.
DSA, M3, D2D, how can you possibly call that mail, it's clearly 'buisness postings', not mail!

I understand where you are coming from POSTMAN, but we've been carrying hours over in our office for the last 5 years. This means there is no cutting off until at least Saturday or in exteme cases (like this week) Friday. And then when you ring up management you get told you will get the sack if you cut off, but just go out and take only 1st and 2nd. When you question that, asking if they are sanctioning the delay of mail, they start to get really shirty. Besides, if I did cut off, I know all the mail will still be sat waiting for me to sort/ deliver upon my return to work the following Monday. And to make matters worse, I'm the day-off cover in our office, meaning if I decide to cut-off that leaves one of my colleagues in the lurch when they come in the next day. And we only have a small subs office and get on well with each other for the most part and It just doesn't seem fair to do the dirty on your mates. I know this is ultimately playing into managements hands, but also know that things would be made very difficult for us in our office if we started doing this. And not only that (sorry this is draggin on now), but at least 3 fairly recent starters in our office have all been given absolute crap contracts, and they desperately need the extra money that OT brings them. Again, mangement using tactics to smooth over the large cracks in the system.

You ain't suggesting that you operate with "banked" hours are you?
You do know that there is no such thing as banked hours in RM ?

It amazes me what some offices have agreed to.
Surely the ADR should have stepped in and gave the local rep a slap...you can't believe that this has gone on for 5 years without someone at least at Branch level finding out....Communication?

Well, you see they claim you are wilfully delaying the mail, which they say is a sackable offence.

And yes, it really gets to me about the banked hours. It wasn't until I found this forum that I discovered that it wasn't common practice across the whole country, as had been claimed by our line manager. What I have yet to understand it what exactly we got out of that particular deal.

Reason for the mail down bollox is because they are not counting it all...
The manager in our office counts the mail himself to check the official count. He has shown me the difference in counts and it's unbelievable and this is ongoing day after day..
Deliberately manipulating the mail figures, wonder why

The reason for him counting is he is under enormous pressure from above to make more cuts in an office already unable to operate due to not enough staff, especially full time. Their figures make our budget and overtime claims look like we are inefficient... nice when they want more out of you, very convenient eh.. pass the blame downwards as usual, and as usual the tests rear their ugly heads..
I've worked for RM for well over 20 years now and this is a recurring cycle, seen it so many times. I believe it's why they keep rotating the management so they can just avoid issues and keep the cycle for ever spinning...
