Why part time staff are paid pro rata for d2d?

Post by postghost »

Heard a rumour recently that the reason p/t staff only receive a pro rata supplement in respect of d2d's was because the f/t staff were supposed to be prepping them....

How is it in your office??

Any contract that is below 22.5 hours might or should have the privilege of getting their d2d's prepped up for them.

Reason i say this is because the lower contracts are only meant to come in take their mail and leave to deliver. But i've seen for a while now that the FT's just don't have the time to prep up the mail far less prep D2D. Its not the full timers that are at fault its lack of full time staff that is the problem and that the management take a blind eye to all this.

Part timers do not get paid for D2D's,full timers do not get paid for D2D's.
What the £20.60 is (pro rata) is a delivery supplement.
The previous D2D money was shared out to make the delivery supplement.

It is paid out on the hrs 'contracted'.Contracted, not worked. They are 2 diferent things.
It also has nothing to do with who preps them, that all depends on what your duties are like in your office.

Another part of the "double prep standards" was implelemented for the first time today in my section, whereby my D2D was prepped! :dance

The only bit I had to put in was for one slot which needs 5 lots of material, as my walk aquires four flats from another round while I give them 10 flats (bizarre story, swapping makes sense due to where each round covers, getting sorted soon with frame re-writes).

Full credit to my prepper, he is happy to prep the roads I write down on the weekly sheet the day before, so I can choose when to delivery D2D to the houses that are before the normal end of my often 8 specials (relieving pressure on my new ~1030 exit from the depot).

You may well beleive all that, but from where I am standing, and that is as a F/T, I think the poor P/T have been shafted big time. You also fail to mention the increse in D2D, so more work less pay. bloody brilliant.

This dr2dr payment is a total farce and criminal in my eyes. The CWU balls'd it up big time by accepting this and heres why.
Hypothetically speaking,, take 2 identical walks with 600 calls each.
1 is done by a 25 hr part timer and the other by a 39hr full timer, who throws his walk in for the PT.
They both take out the same number of dr2dr each day over 5 days and spend the same amount of time prepping up the said dr2dr items.
Both walks take 3.5 hrs to do the delivery only the full timer leaves the office 45 minutes before the PT, because he preps his own walk up first and doesn't throw in the missorts or the bundle off the last van for him, or prep up the PT's dr2dr either.
Result: The FT postie finishes at 13:45 and is paid until 14:00 AND gets £20.60 for the same number of dr2dr delivered, where as;
The PT postie finishes after 14:30, half an hour over his time and ONLY GETS £12.88 for the same number of dr2dr :mad
THE PRO-RATA ARGUMENT IS A COP-OUT! IT STINKS AND YOU TRY CLAIMING OT FOR GOING OVER FOR IT! That is when it not longer is classed as 'mail', but any other time IT NOW IS MAIL!
SO WHY HAVE WE ALL BEEN SHAFTED? :mfo :cfo :lfo
THIS IS NOTHING LESS THAN JOB STAUTS DISCRIMINATION!!! HOW? BECAUSE IT IS DESRIBED AS A 'DELIVERY SUPLEMENT' ON YOUR PAYSLIP.
THAT ALONE CLEARLY SHOWS THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE PAID LESS FOR THE SAME 'SPECIFIC' JOB PURELY ON GROUNDS OF JOB STATUS.
A PT firefighter gets paid the same hourly rate as a FT firefighter. He doesn't get paid LESS because he only attends a fire once a week.
A TA soldier also gets paid the same Days pay rate as a regular soldier of the same rank when they're both out in Afghanistan. He doesn't get paid LESS because he only sweeps the streets or posts letters when he's back home.

well you can thank the CWU AND your colleagues who voted for it
and can we actually accept the delivery supplement is nothing to do with D2Ds?
staff get the supplement who dont do any D2D's
so if you want to talk discrimination then how about that?

Agreed, Also, why the distinction between D2D's and "normal mail", it is all, in the eyes of RM, live mail. No more payment for "D2D's" so why wouldn't this extra bit of mail be thrown in it is after all under the umbrella of mail.
