working to your allotted time

Firstly Im a casual.
If you are told you are getting 4 hours to do a walk, (or say an extra 2 hours to do an addittional half of walk),are you within your rights to finish at the time you are paid till? So you can stop and bring any unfinished work back? Or can RM sack staff who dont finish the walk and go home when there time is up? In my office a few casuals and PTs have been sacked for doing this. Cant you argue that you are not prepared to work for free and you had to finish to attend to family committments at home etc? I mentioned on a thread on the blue shirts, that in my office overtime is practically unheard of for casuals or PTs. You are just paid a couple of hours even if you end up working double that time.

So legally have you got a leg to stand on, if you decide to work to your agreed time and bring back any undelivered stuff?

Another point, in my office there are loads of posties who finish at 11am daily. The managers rarely,( in my experience never) ask them to do an additional walk or half walk, they only pressure the casuals and PTers. Is it because they are duty bound to pay the permanent posties full overtime rates, so casuals are cheaper? or the FTs can say no, with no fear of getting less hours the following week. Ie it is a form of bullying, plus you are not being paid for the time you are actually working till?

there are many who are back in the office around 11, thats b4 i often go out. They then say how they see us still working after 4. In my case till 8, after doing 2 full walks. I've never heard managers telling anyone they cant leave b4 9

People are back at 11am in our office on a Saturday, 12pm mon-fri so it's not THAT hard to believe.

Every single office is different, be enlightened instead of casting doubt on what everyone says. Managers do not allow posties out before 9am? What, in YOUR office or EVERY office?

I said Saturday 11am is possible, 8am leave the office. Why are you being so aggressive?

I can do some walks in two and a half hours ish, even on a pretty bad day. They're walks that you can just bounce through. I'd say 50% of walks are closer than fifteen minutes travel. Even taking that into account, say twenty minutes travel both ways, plus a two and a half hour walk - you could get back by 11.20am easily. Tbh, if I didn't have to go back and forwards collecting bags, I could probably get my current walk done in 2 hrs 45 mins on the worst days. But that would be by increasing the pace to my max and becoming a 'flier'. There's guys in our office who just rush around, I personally like to take my time and listen to the music if I haven't got any overtime. Specials by 1pm? Frak 'em, I'm not rushing.

Other guys . . . I guess they've got some very important things to take care of.

What a strange situation!

In my office if "loads of posties" were finishing "at 11 am daily"(finishing times around 2-215pm for f-timers?) then the manager would be just splitting the extra rounds between them to take near their finishing times. I would think that would be cheaper than paying part-timers and/or casuals! Do you not do any form of lapsing in your office?

our office..you cannot leave till 10.10 or until everyone is prepped and is starting too bundle up..i dont see how other offices are working differently to this,
why are some offices still allowing posties to finish early and go home when others are being made to work upto or near your time.not a moan at working till my time but
seems unfair to allow others not to.

i start at 9. and by the time i get there all of the full timers and the idiot part timers who go in early have gone. this is how it has always been in our office it is proper messed up. last week i was waiting for my bags to be dropped off at 10-50 rang office they said should be with you soon. get a call back 2 mins later to say bags are still in office they will get them to me. 15 mins later dropped off to me by a postie who was on his way home at 11-20.

Saturdays many are finished by 1030 apart from rurals, with 5am start.
