WPC payments and Pro Rata

This is the email response I got today in relation to the query I raised about payments being pro rata after what I was told by someone on here...

"Listed below is the actual extract from the national agreement.



9. Allowance



In recognition of the skills, flexibility and commitment that Coaches will be expected to demonstrate and maintain, an allowance will be paid.



9.1 On appointment each Coach will receive a weekly pensionable assigned allowance of £30, regardless of the level of coaching activity that they are required to provide.



9.2 The allowance will be increased in line with future Royal Mail pay settlements from April 2007.



9.3 Where an employee decides they do not wish to continue in their coaching role they should inform the manager immediately so that an appropriate replacement can be found. They will however be required to continue until the replacement has been selected and fully trained.



9.4 On return to normal duties the Coaching allowance will cease.



The following is Royal Mails position regarding the pro rata payment. The non pensionable element was altered to pensionable. I have also forwarded your email to the Equal Opps dept for their information and opinion as I believe this may be discriminatory.



3. Payments will be assigned (paid whilst on holiday and short term sick leave, but cease after any single

spell of two months continuous absence from work, and also during any spell of absence on less than full pay), non-pensionable, and paid current week. Payments are made for coaching work within conditioned hours only and is not payable for coaching on overtime. Payments are paid pro-rata to part time hours and constitute part of the non-pensionable element of Single Standard Pay Rate. Coaching payments may be made in addition to shift and other allowances e.g. Leadership, TPM. However, employees should not receive payment of both the coaching allowance and the Non School Postal Training allowance for coaching/training performed in the same week.

What is it now then?

No idea, mine's still pro rata lol I think I get about £23 for a 29.4 hour contract.

I believe it is now approx £31.49 per week.
Our WPC is waiting for a stage 3 date for his disagreement over this.
Royal mail have no written documentation to say it is pro rata

So what's all that about that's been quoted above then?!

Aaaaaaaaaaaand I see it makes reference to Non School Training sooooo..... does that mean that posties who are training someone else up should be getting paid for doing so?!

Like I said in another post, I thought they were meant to get paid, but I've never known anyone to actually get paid so I wasn't sure whether it still existed.

Might be worth anyone who's not a WPC and has to train new starters on rounds if they can get the payment then?

Any member of staff who trains someone else up on a duty is entitled to the training allowance which is about £6 a day
managers will try and argue the point and say it has to be a full weeks training but as you can see from your documentation it is a daily training allowance
