Just wondering if theres any part time student postpersons out there..

prob not full timers tho there just content with there never ending full timer job

anyway jsut wondering how you are going about it and if u get any funding etc

2 courses every 11 weeks
20 hours attendance per course
approx 80 hours study on top per course
plus a separate statistics course

I don't know if this counts - but I'm studying how to get more money for less work........................snag is they keep coming up with these crazy agreements of how to do more work for less money.

I used to study the world of macro and microeconomics until i discovered that the marginal propensity of me drinking too much beer and playing too much golf was directly proportional to the business strategy of my course leader..........booting my arse out the door!

But like you dv,i'm still studying........the laws of diminishing returns,still don't understand this formula though!

I do open university course in Environmental Studies for last 2 years part time while working full time and partying.
My nest course start on February 5th after finishing in June. Too much of gap.

I'm doing an OU Open Degree in Maths and Sciences. You can apply for financial assistance and do the degree over a number of years longer than a F/T student would.

The course material I received is really good and my tutors are lovely.

Plus I got an NUS card to get discounts at loads of shops... shame I have no money lol

I would like to get back into education. I enrolled on a university course straight after finishing my a-levels but found the idea of a degree to be much richer than the actual content, which was underwhelming in its nature. For an estimated £20,000 of debt, I didn't see what all the fuss was about. Little did I know that I would be vindicated when my friends emerged from their cocoons of sex, booze and intermittent 'studying' to find that the real world had collapsed somewhat around them. No jobs, not a lot of money. It's not a great time to be young, self-obsessed and inexperienced. However, I would still like to get involved in something that interests me. Something different, something wacky. And preferably something that I can undertake on my terms. Learning is a pleasant and rewarding experience in and of itself. Knowledge isn't power, knowledge is contentedness. To me, anyway.

There's a course for becoming a physics teacher. Apparently there's quite a shortage of science and especially physics teachers. No one to teach physics, no one taking physics, no physics teachers and the circle goes around again!

I know you can also get a grant of about £7000 if you're becoming a teacher... I can't remember the details though. Have a look at the TDA website http://www.tda.gov.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I go loads of info off there a few years ago but I didn't think I could afford to study. Then I found out about the financial grants you can get for the OU and got most of my courses paid for.

I left the R.M. to go to uni (in my late 30's) and study nursing but came back as a "Saturday Boy" ( 6 hr contract) which although I didn't have a fixed walk each week and managed to do just about every walk in the office over five years and generally got humped i.e. out delivering til 3p.m. on a Saturday!. I also managed to get work during the holidays , covering A/L and the odd day during the week etc.This along with my bursary (£6K p.a.) meant that I was able to take home about 12k a year and not get into debt as many of my collegues did.
But on the downside I did sometimes end up working up to 2 weeks without a day off ,I didn't get a Saturday off about six months and had a very limited social life. I left uni this year with a 1st Class Hons degree but I survived and now due to a dearth in nursing jobs in my area have returned to R.M.( hopefully not for long) and can do just about any walk in the office that the management throw at me. To sum up , you can combine both uni and the R.M. but you need to have a strong work ethic and sacrifice your uni social life to do it.

Its something i have thought about doing when i get the time for no other reason other than an self improvement. Trouble is i have too many hobbies as it is.
