Will I ever get any faster?

I'm beginning to wonder. When I started this job, just about 3 months ago I was taking the thick end of 4 hours to complete my duties. Now I'm closer to 3, or 2 and a half if I'm not on the missort run.

I'm not desperate to finish at 11ish like some of my colleagues or even 845 on Saturday like one driver I work with (yes, he managed it last week)! All I want to do is get to a point where I can stop worrying about failing SDs being late to bag drops.

So in your experience do new postmen/women get quicker over time or have I peaked?

what you will find is you relax as you know the duties and if SD's are an issue
then you work around it

PS,finishing before 1.30Pm would be nice

why on earth would you want to go any faster...every one goes at a different rate of pace, so i wouldn't stress about it. If your dom is questioning about your performance then just tell him/her to test you (he proabably won't).

Theres only so much you can squeeze, and sometimes they want you to burst.

This constant obsession with our finishing times.
If you are paid until 2.15 then that is your finishing time and anything else just gives the cock of a DOM a big stick to beat your colleagues with.
Perhaps we should have a separate forum where you can post pictures of yourself by a clock so you can see who finishes earliest.
And leave your dicks hanging out so we can see who is the biggest dickhead.

That's an interesting idea clash,but all things considered we're probably better sticking to the more traditional method........of the signing out sheet!

I can stop worrying about failing SDs

Why worry about those? We didn't choose our later start times. I don't give any thought whatsoever to what time I will be at a certain house with a special. I mentioned it once, that the special was for one of my last calls, and was told that 'we'd just have to take it on the chin'.

Today I had three for the last third of my walk. I was half way round at 1:00pm.

Ive never finished before 12, and being back before the office closes at 2.30 is early for me. I take around 3.5-4 hours to do a walk, and Im often asked to do 2 a day. Im embarrassed to tell the others what time I finish. I work in London and today worked till 8. I had to stop cos it was too dark to see the door numbers even with my Royal Mail torch clipped on my RM Jacket. Plus it was to pouring down and slippery. Isnt there a rule under health and safety about NOT working in the dark? Btw I dont get paid overtime, they just want the work done. The last time I brought work back I nearly got the sack. The last time I let them know I did over 12 hours, they only agreed to pay me an extra 2 hours, at normal rate. Their argument is the regular guys do walks in half the time I do. Btw Im employed as a RM casual on the rolling 3 month contract

You only will get faster if you have your own walk. But don't try to do too quick, otherwise Royal Mail will increase your workload.
