CWU Delivery Reps guide to the Indoor Workload Tool v 6 2.3

Basic Input - Traffic
%Sequenced letters – walk sorted letters – walk sorted large letters – walk sorted packets
%Manual letters – manual large letters – manual packets – large packets – tracked packets
%Special Delivery – Business replies – Door to Door
*For revision activity the model week traffic is used weeks 11 to 17 or 41 to 44 + 4 x D2D for unit.
Number of deliveries split by Town – Rural – Firms. Live redirections per duty
Using national data the IWT will calculate workloads and throughputs – This will be displayed on the Summary Sheet. (interim values have been agreed by the CWU – these will be tested in a live environment and amended if necessary LTB 715.10)

Localised Input -This provides a more accurate reflection of your unit.
Unit Function Inward Primary Sort – Inward secondary Sort – Platform work
Is unit multi level - %traffic moved between floors.

Distances
Platform to Reception – Reception to IPS , Locker, Prim Ltrs, Prim Pkts, Prim Flats
Prim Ltrs to Prep Frames – Frames to Locker, DBF,etc
Distances should be input to all equipment locations (van loading, bike shed, trolley store)

Sorting and Prep Frames
Input mail to IPS frame types e.g 56 box - Pkts to DBF - Flats to 48 box – Prep to frames (RM2000)
Platform details – default is 100% trayed mail 100% sleeved pkts. (traffic in bagged entered to allow cut /tip time)
Traffic details per stream second handling % - Breakdown of received traffic (exclud Specials & ELU's) Callers office – Missorts out,To other SPDO, to delivery from Primary, to delivery from secondary, Received traffic to Prep. Additional Traffic Missorts to Prep.( no time for internal missorts)Average Container fills (provided by Mail Centre) Recommended spot checks. Extremely Large Users over 5000 items per day – appear as separate entries from MC.

Delivery Details Input
Duty name and number – Type Town/Firms/Rural. Method – Foot,Cycle,HCT,eHCT,Van,Shared van.
Input delivery points – IPS y/n,Prep y/n, delivers SD y/n, Pouches off y/n, Wings (info only same prep rates all frames) D2D contracts, Live redirections. Traffic split %of all office traffic per duty.
Prep Requirements report – Provides prep time per duty required at target performance. Time includes sorting mail inc D2D, clear down, redirections, undeliverables,special delivery and prep to leave unit. The report shows the volume of prepped traffic on each delivery each day of the week. *When used for revision activity this report should be saved and recorded to reflect changes in delivery point growth, traffic changes etc. NOTE *Changing the target performance on the Summary sheet will alter these times.

Hours Input
Enter Establishment Hours= Authorised Working Duties + Scheduled Attendance.
RCS code G54 – Inward sort mail for delivery and H11 – Prep mail for delivery walk per day
Enter Indoor Pressure Hours G54 + H11. Enter Indoor Lapsed Hours G54 + H11. Enter Indoor Hours Used G54 + H11.
*For revision planning only use Establishment Hours. *N OTE Basic Input and Localised Input with current Hours establishes Unit Estimated Performance (EP) against the Model Traffic Week..
Performance is calculated by dividing the workload at standard by total hours for the day.
A false EP will be recorded by Early starters and DOM's doing OPG work

very good tamsky but do you honestly think west /scotland mgmt can get past first point on iwt guide
i dont think so and i dont trust or believe them
asked mgmt last week what rate of ips to be input and was told
the correct rate rm rate its us who you work for so you do what your told we pay your wages
rate was quoted as 22.5 and their version was true with nothing taken into account
they are making everything up to suit not as per national agreement
the d2ds prime example people still take home box in before ips or frame prep ,none being thrown into pt roads
so i wont hold my breath on mgmt sticking to any national methods of revision

Hi thanks for this it will be put to good use, just one question in the delivery details input have we a right to know how many delivery pionts there is on each walk a number of our staff have asked this but have been told you dont need to know it.

of course not it could be 25,000 depending on starting afore time ,lapsing ,office average mail count for the day , you name it .how many pt roads you prep , how long your on ips , no toilet break, meal relief at end of duty , work your day off.
dont turn round at ips ,no talking it all coming and im usually an optomist

Right, Ive got the IWT print out from my DOM in front of me and its has various figures on the 2nd sheet in titled TRAFFIC.

Two of them are prepared traffic and delivered traffic but they do not seem to match with a average of weeks 11 to 17 either this year or last nor do they match 41 to 44 last year.

Ive added up various combinations of the 41 to 44 and the 11 to 17 figures and worked out averages but still dont get the same figures as the IWT printout the DOM has provided

Now going to look at annual average and a 77 week average.

Will you get given a certain amount "individually" to sort on inward before you can go onto your frame?

No...it's an office resource measurement tool not an individual performance tool.
It can tell you how many hours your inward needs to complete but it does not allocate specific amounts to each sorter.

You're right of course FT, BUT - just imagine how much improved the IPS would be if each individual was given an equal amount and could then go to their frame to throw off and set in...............that would bring the %age decile into proportion

In Our Office we had a manual yest 4 weeks ago, and the mail centre figuers were drastically different to the manual count
Difference of 50 percent, and wewas also told not to count DSA,

Now they are saying we have to cut out 6 walks.

Then today a line manager was going around asking where to put Boxes on premises to hold maiil bags instead of using HCT parked up , and then they want to cut out 6 walks which will chnge the rounds around altogther why not wait till after the revison is done, we have 3 managers doing opg work and yet this is all glossed over

Hi Essex Mum - Mech mail count is usually fairly accurate - in reality DOM won't know manual figures unless it is counted - strongly reccomend you do -we ahve agreements to do this in our area.

Can't understand why new bag boxes would be going in since idea of revision is partly to reduce or remove replenishment of bags. HCT's should be more than capable of carrying mail for duties.

How do they to propose to remove six walks - unless your delivery span is vastly changing don't see how this could be justified.

Your Unit rep and area rep should be able to explain this and remember the revision has to be approved by the members if it is not do-able don't vote for it.
