I have a question inregards to the removal of saturday deliveries if this does go ahead what would happen to the sat only staff who are on permanent contracts to work just saturdays as no one in my DO wants to talk about this? somehelp pls collegues

The possible reason that no one wants to talk about it is that the final decision would be at national not local. However, I'll give it a go.

If normal deliveries did go to 5 day only its not certain that Saturday would be the one to go. According to figures is the 4th busiest day on average. Monday and Tuesday are quieter and there is a slim chance that those days may be merged.

If Saturdays are chosen its likely that there will still be opportunities for work such as callers office, Saturday Guaranteed Special Deliveries, Packet Deliveries, business may request Saturday deliveries so you may still be able to work on them just that your job may change.

If Saturdays are cancelled, then there are I suppose 2 options both as likely as each other. One is give you the chance to select another working day, the second would be redundancy.

TBH I think the first paragraph is more likely in the you will continue to be able to work Saturdays just that the content will change.

Where would you stand if you are a floater like me? This would certainly do away with alot of floater jobs, i guess that would put me onto holiday floater or something?!

simple fact is there will be less jobs
so some will go
whether its VR or compulsory is another matter

Its more than likely that saturday shifts as such will still exist as TBT mentioned.

Many parcel delivery firms do this already with a voluntary acception to working saturdays. On the delivery side of the spectrum IMHO saturday deliveries will go as mail decreases over the years and job losses will be the outcome.
