Getting Rid of Part Timers

We've about 900 p/timers in my region. Yesterday I heard RM want to get rid of all of them. Once they have gone only then will they consider EVR. Is there going to be anyone left to deliver the mail?
I thought RM wanted a part-time workforce?

I get the impression they are bumbling from one plan to another not knowing what to do

Anyone heard anything?

Are these part-timers on fixed term contracts?

Seems an outlandish idea at first glance - but what makes you think the replacement staff will have any more hours than the previous staff - get rid of 900 x 30 hour contracts and replace them with 900 x 5 hour contracts?

I don't think that RM are going to change the PT regimen.

It's not their length of contracted hours that makes them a target it's the type of contract.
As CCR said it's a FTC issue...the want rid before any of them hit the magic 4 year mark.
It's another 900 towards that 24,000...and all for free.

Though of course the 4 year mark was agreed to be a 2 year mark.
And employment law offers them certain rights after 12 months I believe.

In that case stormproof that is one helluva cull - 900 people would make quite a dent in any organisation. I don't know how big or representative your area is but that would be 1/24th, or almost, of the total job losses nationally - well reportedly.

I know a part timer in my MC who wanted VR and was told no, because apparently part timers are the future.

Well 900 part timers must be the management cull starting, though I've never known a manager to work as many as 30 hours

I wouldn't be worrying too much at this point batman....................that hurdle is quite a way off I would imagine.
