xmas jobs
when are the xmas jobs advertised for friends and family of royal mail staff? i have a mate i play rugby with who is desperate for a job but i threw my courier out so cant remember when they are advertised and how do i get him to apply? thanks for any help.

According to The Courier you can apply online at http://www.royalmail.com/xmasjobs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; from 27 September.
Vacancies will be advertised externally a week later.

I will be telling people not to apply fro Royal mail as its long hours stood up, treated like s**t, forced to move around like a headless chicken and s**t pay for casuals.

i too would not reccomend this. 6 pound an hour. and treated like monkeys
i was sent to the MC last year and worked with 2 xmas casuals. one of them travelled on 2 bus's to get to the MC. one day after he arrived the manager gather all the casuals around ( this was at 6.30am, just 30 mins after start time) and told them all to go home and come back and work sat and sun instead and told them they wouldnt even be paid for their work they already had done so far today. i just cant beleive how they can say that to them. they really dont care about casuals or actual RM staff. when i worked at the MC i did 5 days 40 hours. contract is 20 hours. i asked if i needed to fill in a docket and the wannabe managers (just reg RM staff but wannabe managers) said no it will automatically be done. it wasnt and i told the other manager about this, a real one and he said i should of filled in a docket. i approach the 2 wannabes with about 4 other in the same situation as me and we confronted them and they just said, 'we didnt know you had to fill in a docket to claim overtime' LOL.

Royal Mail must be one of the the biggest abusers of casuals in this country. 
I've seen it in my office before,it got so bad the rep had to stick up for them!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

RM usually sign up far more than they need for the MCs, and then only some of them are actually taken on.
It's a disgrace. A lot of these people think they're going to get a bit of money for Xmas, and don't get a start.
And they get told not to come back if they are a minute late. And if there is less work than expected they get laid off.
I tell my friends and family's kids who are students that they would be better off applying to the big stores
who take on extra staff over the xmas period. They will be treated better than at Royal Mail.
