What is the role of the workplace coach?

Ours seems to think its letting a new starter follow him round for a week, and then just laugh at him struggling on any walk with no follow up help...

is there any info on here that can show me how they earn that £30 a week

Your work place coach should be running though a 6 week intro programme with every new enployee meeting with him/her for at least 1hr a week to go through any probs or questions they have about the job. They should also be availabe to approach anytime the new staff member needs help.

Yes, SOME WPCs do absolutely bugger all for their pennies. Some of us, however, work for theirs. It just depends whether your DOM makes full use of them or not. I've been brought into offices to train staff when that office already had a WPC, because I've bothered to do training with my staff, and teach them properly.

Ours goes out to deliver his rural about 0730, and new starts occasionally hear of his existence. That`s what he does for his money.

This is the theory (and what a beautiful theory it is.)
This is what your WPC should be doing for his/her money and this is how your manager should be training newstarts.
Not - "you've had one day of training and I'm 2 walks down so here's a map - off you go"

In our mail centre we have 3 coaches on my shift. Since they started as coaches about 2 years ago wasnt it; one did about 2 days work as a coach, one spent a week testing three people sorting letters standing behind them the whole day!, and the other has done nothing, although he did ask once if he would ever be needed. The coach project £39 a week has been worth every penny to them.

Our worktime coach used to get the new starters to deliver D2Ds for him [he ran the office D2D empire til they cancelled payment for them]. Now he has to settle for just giving them half his round all weak while he collects the £30 for doing less work. I guess it helps that he regularly plays squash with the DIM

I dont know about other offices but the ones who get £30+ a week are not the noes who can/should be training staff

Allowances stopped after 8 weeks continous sick leave.

Quite a few dual role WPC & Reps out there so don't know about that one.

Have to say this is an expensive PR stunt gone wrong.
No doubt there are good coaches out there but ffs how many times do they actually coach,and what's all this 'whatever the DOM asks me to do' bollox.(Was mentioned in another thread somewhere)
