Right time for a query from me to get everyones grey matter ticking over.

Im looking at the following for my D.O

3 sets of 9 day fortnight (5 day 4 day option) which breaks down as 1 set 30 hour PT 1 set 40 hour FT urban 1 set 40 hour FT rural

2 sets of rotating day off, both FT

4 SETS of FT Fixed day off

1 set of PT 30 hour contract fixed day off


So what I need to do is work out how my reserves will work on weeks they are covering 9 day fortnight jobs

Some weeks their working hours will not be enough and others too much. At the moment my D.O has 7 X 40 hour reserves and one 30 hour reserve.

Any ideas?

Think that's taking flexibility too far! Talk to the chaps first, and see how they feel about it.

The preference exercise indicates demand for a 9 day fortnight for PT and one and a bit for FT.

Demand is there for at least 5 sets of fixed day off and 2 sets of rotating day off duties as well.

Unit managers will need to make effective use of manpower tools to enable them to schedule resource effectively and deal with the complexity of differing attendance patterns of staff across the unit. In particular it will be necessary to manage absence in a fair and equitable manor.

So are RML going to upskill their managers then

Well. there you go! Pass the buck to them in the first instance! Get them to work it out! Truly, it seems an almost impossible task,even Einstein would have his work cut out trying to work that one out. I suppose of course you could just bank the hours on the short days, and use them up on the busy days! sounds all right in theory, but would probably be a disaster! You'd really need to work out in advance what the alleged quiet/ busy weeks are, and work from there. Good luck!

Preference exercise? In our 1-2-1s we got 4 sets of duty hours to pick from and about 10 seconds to decide. We went in, were told these were our options and asked to pick. No offer of fixed day off at all and 8hr 15min shortest Saturday available. No chance to voice any concerns or opinions.

Ren 1976 exactly the same with us. Not going to sign anything until they treat us in accordance with the agreement. No agreement, no signature, no change.

Our office had one choise only,we were told cos of the size of the unit tha's the only one we could have, it's not on the original menu of duty options....

We were shown the menu of duty options, "here's what you could have won"!

We were asked in our 1-2-1's about whether we wanted to go f/T, P/T or whatver, we were told it was all about our aspirations... so i said I was worried about picking son up from school, and that I wanted to increas hours,

Anyway, all those people who went into 1-2-1's wanting to increase hours have been told no, this won't happen, all those who wanted to drop hours have been successful!

The whole 1-2-1 thing and the menu is a pointless paper exercise to allow RM to appear caring and fluffy, your choices will be considered as long as they are in line with RM'sunstoppable grand plan.

Still working on it, TBH Im annoyed that HQ did not think and plan for this and give guidance at the same time as the menu of options doc or within 2010 agreement.

Area Delivery Rep is helping me with this on Tuesday next week.

Long Weekends ??? NOT on your nelly !!! Lucky if we get one a year...us reserves get a bum deal...all we are as a former manager
said is...''As an when required''...sums it up really eh?...general dogs bodys...when will we ever get our own walk?...NEVER is the
answer in my office as any full time staff who leave the business their walk is made part-time or made into a bag carriers duty and
in turn if that happens one of us comes off the sorting to prep their frame thus in turn losing another one off the main sorting...
so is that royal mail shooting itself in the foot i wonder ???...comments any RESERVES out there ???
