Are Toilet Breaks Included in Revision times?

Post by mailmonkey »

Our manager and planner told us today that there is no time built into the new revised geo'd duties for tiolet breaks.

When we first heard about Park and Loop we were told that one of the advantages was being able to pop back to the office or to public convenience to answer call of nature.

Now there is no time for one???

Please help, this will be coming up at WTL tomorrow, i want to be sure of things before I start agitating.

Thanks

Ignore your planner and your DIM,of course they have to be built in.
Each P&L duty should have somewhere to go,if it adds on loads of time to the duty then tough.

Okay, thanks, this is what we thought...

We were in a "meeting" this morning, me , the union rep, the dep rep, the DIM and the Planner.

Dep rep, strongly arguing the need for tiolet relief, rep and me agreeing, we even stated we thought it was ILLEGAL to not allow time for toilet break.

DIM and Planner just started on the "well the CWU agreed to this nationally" spiel which they always trot out when we try to pick them up on something.

Is there anywhere I can download, or print off to actually SHOW these nutters tomorrow, or is it just a case of our word against theirs?

"Well the CWU agreed to this nationally."

Now, how many times have I heard some berk in management say that to me, I wonder. :hmmmm
Not sure, but I wish I had a quid for every time, though!!! :Very Happy

As for toilet breaks, haven't Royal Mail designed a uni-sex nappy for all of us, to cut down on the valuable minutes and seconds we take for a dump? :Very Happy
On second thoughts, I hope not, don't fancy coming to the end of a long, hard, day at work, and with a full nappy to carry around!!

Thanks for replies, so, yeah, HAS the CWU agreed to it nationally? Totally agree Dirty, we've heard this "CWU agreed to it nationally" bull pretty much daily since the "agreement", we're startin to qustion sh1t now though :cool

and, again, can anyone direct me to a rule, or proof, so that I can show the DIM/Planner tomorrow? I'm sure it's a legal requirement, but not sure in the context of our work.

Have you got the new wrap system in your office?

I went through the new system last week with the manager and i must admit
was impressed with it,each duty needs to be checked off against it and one of the sections to be completed is
toilet breaks,ie where is toilet on delivery etc, this along with dangerous dogs, delivery with lots of stairs etc are
then printed off and kept hanging from your frame.Whats good about it is once the info is input the software
decides what action needs to be taken and not the manager(of course have to make sure the info is correct in first place).

When you come to plan the dutys in the revision then i presume the toilet break info in the wrap would have to be used
so any toilet break not on delivery route would have to have some time factored in,of course this is Royal Mail and its run by total scum so dosnt mean any of the above will be fairly done.

SDD page 3...
3.Health and Safety

a)Single deliveries will be introduced to provide all delivery employees with a fair and manageable workload whilst fully safeguarding welfare and safety.

b)Royal Mail and CWU will ensure that the introduction of a single delivery system is compliant with Health and Safety legislation and its requirements. The Area Safety Manager and local/area CWU safety representatives will be available, when necessary, to provide advice and support in line with their normal roles to assist in implementing the following:

Undertake risk assessment, as detailed in the 12 Step Revision process, for each walk to ensure all health and safety requirements and regulations have been applied, with toilet and welfare facilities in the vicinity identified at step 3 of the revision process. The risk assessment process will also consider the needs of any individuals during the duty selection process.

And DON'T let any f****r tell you that the SDD agreement does not count now!

When you're in your meeting with the DOM and the planner, drop your cacks and take a dump on his floor.
When he starts screaming "WHAT THE F**K DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?" Say sorry, no time built in for loo breaks.

This should either get you them included in the plan for you or get you sacked! LOL.

What tweedledee and tweedledum mean is there is no specific RCS code in the duty builder for a toilet break.

Managing Fatigue and Staff Welfare

When planning duties with flexible spans the following welfare issues need to be considered:
• Pegasus should be fully exploited to identify appropriate toilet facilities and include these in walk-logs.
• Does the design of the duty allow staff to take part of their meal relief en route if required (before or at the middle of the delivery and not left to the end) or eat and drink in order to replenish their fluid and energy reserves?
• Where necessary have breaks been planned at or before the middle of the delivery and not left till the end?
• Will staff have adequate weather protection for all periods of the delivery?
o Warm and wet weather gear in winter
o Sun cream, hats and additional drinks in summer
o NB Delivery vans and trolleys give staff the facility to store these items during the delivery when the weather changes
• Does the revision plan address the need to manage stress and uncertainty, and recognise that additional support may be needed to manage fatigue? Staff may take longer to deliver during the first few weeks after implementation while they learn their new delivery route.
• Has every effort been made to select equipment and methods which are appropriate for the route and minimise weight carried on the person? (for further details consult the ‘RM Delivery Equipment Selection Procedure DM Units V3’.

If delivery duties are planned without consideration to the above there is a risk to the long term health and well being of our staff. Planners need to recognise from the outset that the outdoor element of delivery duties can involve significant physical workload.

Studies have proven that if energy expenditure is too great during the working day long-term health effects may occur. If, over a longer period of time, the recuperation during a 24 hour period is not taken this may impact on health. The effects may include a susceptibility to mental disorders such as depression, irritability, a lack of ability to cope with stress and a reduced level of immunity making people liable to infection. Symptoms may include headache, dizziness, insomnia, irregular heartbeat, sweating fits, loss of appetite, digestive troubles and general malaise. Similarly if the appropriate equipment is not used or weight standards complied with there is an increased risk of musculoskeletal (back, shoulder, knees) injury or illness.
