Hi,
i left the CWU after the "agreement"..
A few others in my smallish office are also disillusioned, and want to join a different union.
The deputy rep has told us that we need 50% off the office for the employer to recognise us. The deputy rep will be leaving CWU if we can get this working
It's not that we think we''ll necessarily get a better deal from a different union, we just don't want to support the CWU any more.
Have any others in other offices gone down this road? How possible is it?

Why would you need to support the union? They support you - not the other way around.

yeah Night Tonic, we don't feel supported by the union at local or national level, and want to stop supporting them financially, but I suspect you alrady knew exactly what I meant anyway.

I guarantee R/M will not recognise any other union apart from the CWU especially when it comes around to deals,agreements and more serious issues.
They will talk to another union but as for recognising one like they recognise the CWU is a far different matter.
Understandable why you left the CWU they have let us all down in a very big way not just with this agreement but a couple of others (Way forward, Pay and Mod).

There has to be a certain amount of the 'whole workforce' for them to be recognised.

Just dunno what to do in our office, revision duty tested out at 6 hrs 15 yesterday, manager informed us this was fine, ..any questions were dismissed as "negativity", it's just rolling ahead...

yeah, from leaving office to returning...manager stated it wouldn't matter if it was 6 hours or 12 hours, it was cos it was first time testing the shared van, park and loop principle...but he was happy with the duty as Geo churned it out.

You honestly think any private employer is going to recognise ANY union, name me one company in the private sector where a Union has as much power as the CWU has in Royal Mail, and if the plan to make US shareholders comes off, will you take indusrtrial action to spite your own face !!

If you want to have the overtime, tell your lino how much of the 6hrs 15mins you think will need to be paid as overtime, as your manager has accepted that this is an acceptable time for the walk.
If you don't want the overtime, tell your lino how much of the above is incompletable during your contract hours and let them start begging others to do it as overtime.
