On average, I claim 3 hours of overtime every DAY!
THis is the result of being on a 20 hour contract but having a 7.00am start, sorting for 30 mins, then driving to a local office to collect 2nd load for my little village office, sort that, deliver at about 10am (firstly doing the parcels which are too big for the cycling postmen), then I start my rural van round. Finish at about 3.15pm.
I wonder if anyone else does anything similar?
All this for 3 weeks of holiaday a year, no sick pay as i am new, only £10 a week for d2ds, and overtime pay is same as basic pay. I'm an idiot, i know!

sadly royal mail know this. everyone is at a time when they need as many hours as possible so they know they dont have to give 40 hour contracts cause they know most people want overtime and so they can save on holidyas, sick pay and pension.....
but, when i was 20 hours and was working 40 hours on a full time position, i went on holiday for 2 weeks and i told them i wanted paying for 40 hours. i said if they dont ill take action (im not in union they dont do anything) and i got paid for 40 hours while on holiday :) royal mail exploit people but that doesnt mean you should just accept it. if your covering a full time duty you should get the same rights regardless of your contract hours cause thats the duty theyve put you on. another guy from our office realised this and took action too. now we are getting about 5 part timers (20 hours) up to 40 hours on contracts!!!!!!!!!! which is a miracle at a time like this. (only tempary ofc but better than nothing)
o/t rate only applies after 40 hours. then after 50 it goes down.

Hope you were carefull what you signed as you could have gone from a permanment contract to a fixed term one.

I agree. Although it is a bit cr*ppy that you're doing the same work as F/T member of staff with all the P/T benefits, you've got to take what you've got at the moment (if you need it) and RM know that.
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?
