IWT, BSI - OMG
Finally managaed to get on to the IWT - in a devious way- so i decide to test the worst day last week thinking that the result would be close and so would give me a figure to argue with in the upcoming revision (which requires a saving of 200 hours) . Input data and checked it, then ran it - i couldnt believe my eyes, our BSI rate for that day was huge, really huge. I really darent say what this was.
So i thought i had better check with yesterdays traffic, middle to easy day, and sure enough well over, 30% over the TARGET BSI.
I plan to continue to monitor for the next couple of weeks, i feel like iv discovered the Rossetta Stone, but dont know what to do with it.
Any suggestions, apart from flagging to Area Rep?

Re: IWT, BSI - OMG
I have thought that at our D.O. over the past 5 or so years the hours have been stripped out far more aggressively than surrounding D.O's and so if the target for an office workload was 100bsi i was sure that our bsi was going to be nearer the top end. I was hoping by running IWT on a busy day that it would come close or even exceed the 100bsi so i could make a case to the dom saying stick your savings figures up your arse as were already achieveing effeciency.Steviea34 wrote:Sorry mate, what do you mean when you say the result would be close?ronpetetrevchris wrote:Finally managaed to get on to the IWT - in a devious way- so i decide to test the worst day last week thinking that the result would be close and so would give me a figure to argue with in the upcoming revision (which requires a saving of 200 hours) . Re: IWT, BSI - OMG
prep rates were 19 or so a minute (just prep) for letters, 12 for large letters, 12 packets, i think.guvenor wrote:what prep rates were used doing iwt and for what part of prep ie ips or at frame
The figure for the bsi was an overall and for all indoor work, prep and ip. Both figures were impressive (depending your viewpoint) but our prep hours used were half of what we should have used for the traffic figures 230 should have been used and around 120 were used approx.

you posted that just as i was typing my reply! :)
got an even better one for you, try and get hold of the model week traffic data that the revisions will be going on, you will be shocked if you were over by that much, this week our iwt is saying we need an extra 10 hours over the week (small do 16 deliveries) the dsm was saying how this all singing and dancing iwt will save the day and cut hours to a "realistic" measure, he was thinking it would cut 40hrs per week from us, model week traffic has been input (i saw it) and is saying we are 40 hours light, so in reality we are needing 80 hours more due to the iwt than he thinks/wants, he hasnt mentioend iwt recently and we cant wait for the full revision next year, as he has catogorically stated that when they do geo route and iwt together whatever figure is spat out is what we will end up with up or down and he put that in writing, we got geo routed last year and it actually shortened a few deliveries
what all offices should do, is get the youngest most computer literate guy in the office to make sure all you office data is correct,
make sure your 318s are correct for what you do and when, make sure that is reflected correctly in the g54codes etc on RCS and DMS, make sure your walk logs are fully upto date with every single address point listed seperatly, block of flats etc every flat listed if they have individual letter boxes, if all your data is correct you dont really have much to worry about, as a guy in our office says, he can knock the socks off of "royal mail speed"
the big secret is the computers systems work and work well......
........its the monkeys using them thats the problem

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: IWT, BSI - OMG
If you are performing well over 100bsi, then it is bad news for the rest of us. I.E. RM`s aim is to get everyone, every office, performing to the same level as the top 10% of the country. By achieving 100bsi, it does not mean they will not still be looking for savings. Be careful.

Re: IWT, BSI - OMG
Could anyone please explain how the Duty Management figures could change what iv already said in this thread.
The manager i ran IWT with last week has now inputted data from the Duty management tool and it has swung the BSI and performance figures complettely the other way, and if thats right then fine. But when i asked how that changed things he didnt know himself. Is IWT self contained as we used it last week or is it to run parallel with this duty management tool. Confused
