Why unit reps must stand and what they should do

Post by MinisterofCucumber »

Privatisation will be decided by MPs in Westminster. They will vote according to how they believe their constituents want them to. A strike will not help our cause.

If we want to stop privatisation, we need to use our heads. A private buyer will only come forward if they can be offered a 'tame' union. We will not provide this, no matter how much our traitorous professional reps want this.

Us unit reps are more or less the only people in the union who really represent the workforce. From my experience, we can't afford to risk trusting other union officials.

Do what I do. Stick to RM and union rules. The union rule book is available on the CWU site. Make sure that you only communicate in writing, e.g. email, to your Area rep, Territorial rep and all other union officials. If you have to talk to them, make sure there are witnesses and a note taker. In other words, treat these people as you would treat management.

What I suggest will take courage. This will not be a problem for reps who are there for the right reason. If you are a rep because you want to get out of working, now is the time to f**k off.

Could you expand on this Cucumber? Not sure how sticking to union and RM rules is gonna scare off any private investor? Our lot at the top are in charge and they have already tamed the union by kicking strike action into the long grass.

I like the idea .....................not

A private firm comes in and everyones pay and conditions go down, well those lucky to be left behind that is.

Weakening the union would achieve this a whole lt quicker and easier for the firm coming in.

No we stand together, fight its the only chance we have now

Potential buyers will be taking a close look at industrial relations. If they are being sold the idea that the union hierarchy can control its members even to the point of negotiating and selling them an agreement that arguably brings the union in to disrepute, we can show them that unit reps will not blindly follow orders from above.

Our professsional reps should be representing our position. We can get rid of 'wronguns' in two ways, either by voting them out or by using RM and union disciplinary procedures. Written evidence is more reliable than statements.
