UNION WHAT UNION

20 YRS + i gave this union, for what, i was sacked after 21 years servise to r.m. at least 20 years of support to the C.W.U, I.E. LOCAL REP, dep/rep,spokeperson for the office when nobody else would do it.Then when i need support from this so=called union im shafted. All because of what it might cost the union to represent me at an I.T.. AND there was silly old me thinking that the union would back me,not because im a union member, or the time or effort i put in , but at least i thought they would fight for the right for a post
person to refuse overtime. What the feck where we on strike for, the buisness all ways said { all we want is our people to work thier contracted hours } So there was silly old me thinking that all i have to do was, do my job properly and the union will look after me. FORGET IT BOYS + GIRLS this union { IN MY OPION } WILL ALLWAYS look after themselves, and screw the people that pay THIER WAGES. In my humble opinion its a bad day for the trade=union movement when MONEY comes before the welfare or thier members. I THINK WE SHOULD ALL JOIN THE CON/LIB MOVEMENT AND SCREW THE WORKING CLASS PEOPLE OF THIS SO CALLED KINGDOM.

The union is clearly going through tough times, but deserting the union is not the right answer. So anyone reading this keep your subs going, i think we'll be needing the union in the coming months.

Of course there was, but, as is often the case, he's chosen to disregard that aspect and just say it was the union's fault that he's now out of work.
He's right though, who'd ever want to be a union rep with people like this to represent..

To be fair, there probably is more to the story, there always is, BUT I have seen the Unions fighting tooth and nail to keep men in jobs who should have been out the door long ago , but their faces fit, and other folks who deserve representation get ingored, when they go for help. Maybe that;s where this chap is comimg from. Everybody that pays their dues should br given fair representation.

Go to Tribunal. Fight all the way. Represent yourself and put more details up so that we can give advice. You can download the union rule book from the CWU site. If any union officials have broken these rules, the procedure is to complain to Billy.

Thanks for the comments people, just to simplify things, i was suspended last year the first day back after the national I.A. for refusing to work O/T. Then the management team at local and senior level saw the oppertunity to get rid of me. They have built up a case that is totaly untrue. Anyway ive been thru all the proceedures, appeals ect and lost the case. My point is that when it went to the union solicitor they refused to take my case on because QUOTE c.w.u. h.q. will not pay for the I.T. IF THEY THINK there is a 50% chance you will loose the case. WHERE IS THE JUSTISE IN THAT. 20 YEARS of paying my subs would have paid for it, in my opion. I have lodged an I.T. and am totaly prepared to take these people on myself, my case is to be heard in the next few months, so hopefully i can get it over with, and get back to some sort of normality, and forget the last 20 years of working for these types of employer and union.

I feel for you mate. What a terrible state of affairs when the Union wont back you because of the monetary outlay.
It was always my understanding that Unions were established to help workers in time of need .. perhaps I missed something along the way ?
Going it alone is very daunting and requires a hell of a lot of determination and organisation.
Hope you get some degree of satisfaction from it all.

Hi Ulster.
I have been through an IT with a previous company. It is daunting, but if you make sure that you have done all your homework and you have every scrap of information, records, witnesses etc. Details of how all of your disciplinary hearings were handled. Basically everything and you know in your heart of hearts that you have been unfairly dismissed, then you can go into the tribunal knowing that you can answer with authority, any questions that are thrown at you, and you will give yourself the best opportunity for a successful outcome.
