so we are now told we are going to cdv and walks will now go to 4 hours 30 mins
so to get staff upto the right fitness levels what do they do
1. collapse walks ( fitness levels go up)
2. bring in the 2010 agreement
3.if they ask say working on a building site is harder

working on a building site is harder, did it for 7 years, until 3 years ago. Yes job is difficult but not as difficult as that.

You obviously didn't work on the sites I deliver to!
A building site could be harder work but I doubt there is much in it and who your boss driving you is.

yeah because a fleeting visit from a postman once a day is a true reflection of how difficult a job is. just a couple of points for you. for bricklayers pre 2008 were earning £400+ per 1000 bricks layed. 2010 £250-£300 per 1000 brciks layed. the average 2+1squad of bricklayers will lay approx 1000 bricks a day allwoing for different variations of build.
Pre 2008 hourly rates £13+, 2010 £8!!!
Yes our job has become more difficult, 4.30 of delivering letters is'nt as hard as 8 hours on a site.
just my opinion, as i've done both.

One well respected news site thinks that being a lollypop lady is much harder then being a postie!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Me no. Now where's my tsykie? Sorry fellas just thinking back to the 7 months of being without work before joining RM, when the credit crunch started. It seriously was a hard life, just because I was self employed I couldn't claim jobseekers which meant no help anywhere else. So after 18 years if paying tax and NI I was dumped on my arse by this government, just glad I've got something coming in at the end if the week now. Although not great it's better than most manual workers out there.happy days!

Done both jobs, both physically demanding however the most knackering is being a postie! obviously some rounds harder than others and some impossible. You cant lay bricks in very cold conditions and you cant lay bricks when its absolutely lashing it down (so you go down the pub!) However when your a postie your just eternally f'*ked every which way - anyone see the marine do that geordies round on t.v (the marine had No parcels and no recorded items may i add) and he couldnt complete within the designated time frame. We lift and carry the same weight thoughout the day and move heavy items like builders but who walks the most miles a day? Theres your answer. If there was any work out there for building work at mo i would swop within an instance.....
