Day off refused!!!

I gave my DOM a written request for 1 day off in a couple of weeks time ( have something planned which means going away for the weekend ) over 4 weeks ago and now been giving the letter back saying he can't give me use of my OWED DAYS that i'm owed. Am i right in thinking that if i give the DOM 4 weeks notice, he must give me it and get my Duty covered.

Thats no help at all.. what i want to know is - Is he wrong in refusing me, even though he's had at least 5 weeks notice! Just spo i know that i can take the issue to someone above him

When you originally asked was the leave spread full?

If it wasn't then there was no reason for him not to pencil you in at the time you asked,your rep could of ensured this.

If it was,then he does not have to give it to you but could of worked something out.

i cannot get a proper answer off rep or management iv'e booked train tickets for november leaving my local train station at 1345 on a saturday but at the moment there is no problem as finish 1130 but we have been told new duties ,park & loop etc could be in by mid october !! the tickets are non transferable ( and cheap) and i'm going 300+ miles to visit family & friends from where i used to live . theres no way i can get a later train as its over 4 times dearer !! shall i mention flexibility to them !!

he's the boss,so technically he can refuse.

but, did the correct thing by putting the request in writing, but you should have kept a copy and requested a written response to your letter...the fact he handed you the letter back means he could deny you gave him it !?

you could request unpaid leave as an alternative solution - again - put the request in writing and ask for a written response.

if that is refused, you could raise a personal grievance against the way you are being treated...no formal answer - just a blank refusal and it may well be the case they are lapsing duties anyway to add insult to injury !?

If they will be lapsing duties on the day you wanted off then check to see if there are more staff off on that day. If there is no extra staff then you can point out that lapsing as agreed in the P&M agreement states that lapsing is done to allow extra staff off.

I'm thinking,the way things are going,you're safe as houses lol.
Check the leave spread ASAP,if it's ok for a day off get stuck in,if it's not,well you know the rest.

see if a workmate could cover for you, we do this now and again in our office, then go back to boss. good .Luck

I was under the impression that the DOM had to tell you before half the time you originally put the request in had lapsed.

IE you cannot be denied today, for Saturday, if you asked three weeks ago.
