Hi could somebody help me. Whhat are the duties involed in being a mentor as the vacancy has just gone on the board in work but the list seems to involve a lot more than the last person to do it. ie inputting a plus etc on the computer i thought the point of the mentoring scheme was to help new recruits into the business not do the work that the manager can't do or the dom support.

I am a workplace coach. When we don't have new starters (I haven't seen any for a year!) I mainly do the A Plus and walk logs. I don't do it in my own time though. WPCs are technically between OPG and Management and the staff are meant to be able to come to you with a question if they don't feel able to ask the management themselves etc. A sort of go between. That does NOT mean we do anything management tell us to do, nor do we break strikes.

When I do get new starters, I make sure I tell them exactly what they're entitled to, about office politics, where everything is and what everything is for. I've never really had to come off my duty. They always put the new starter with me on my duty so I can tell them the stuff they need to know. I'm deliveries/parcels/anything else they can find me to do in my time, so they get to see pretty much everything they'll be doing when they get on a duty.

And if you're part time, you won't get the full allowance. It's pro rata.

So... Tar and Brush springs to mind. Apologise or I'll cover you in tar and stick the brush somewhere.

There is none to back this up, managers will try and use the way forward agreement to argue the point but this was 5-6 years before the introduction of wpc.
If you look at the induction training and wpc support agreement from 2006 you can see the payment is the full payment no matter what level of activity or work undertaken.
Bring it up with the area rep or contact HQ and they will tell you that you should be getting the full amount.
You will need to go through the disagreement stages or the grievance procedures to get this matter sorted.

The union should be sorting this out for all under paid wpc's.

Yes I know what I SHOULD be getting paid and I know what the Union SHOULD be sorting out for me. But, as a member of staff on a part time contract, I was well and truly done over by the latest agreements and I can't see anything else changing. I'd spoken to my DOM about it at the time, he was surprised and didn't know (but he was always good at playing dumb) and HR told me that's the way it goes.

I asked you before WHO I was meant to contact to get the full amount as no one else seems to be able to sort it. I don't really want to put in a grievance against my current DOM as I'm only there for a year and I was WPC before I went to that office. Not fair to go to another office, make a complaint against a good DOM when they've done nothing wrong.

So, once again, WHO do I put the grievance in against? A DOM that knew nothing about it, the whole HR department for lying to me or my current DOM who's done nothing wrong? My area union rep didn't have the decency to return my calls either.

If you really want me to apologise then you should threaten me with something nasty not something that I usually have to pay for anyway, I can only speak from experience in my office and I'm sure other offices up and down the country will say the same but if you're doing exactly what the role is supposed to be then I salute you (but you wouldn't last 5 minutes in my office with that attitude, you'd be thrown off with the rest of us pains in the arses).

I'm starting my degree in a few weeks (course materials arrived yesterday... finished first book already ) and I'm working on alternative means of getting out.

As the post said if you dont want to go via a grievance then get the rep to lodge a disagreement over it and let it proceed through the various stages until it is sorted.
Contact HQ via email or phone, - try talking to Bob Gibsons team and they will tell you what to do as anything less than the full amount is an unlawfull deduction from wages

we have 2 coaches i know of
one trained 1 person once
so now gets £30 a week for cock all
the other has traned a few people but we havent had new starts in yonks
plus he cant even complete his own duty in time..............

I never completed my duty in time unless it was a very quiet day. But, even the reserve who used to run round couldn't get it done any quicker than 3 hours and the other reserve used to book holidays for my RWO if he could so I think it says more about the duty than me.

Anyway, I was built for comfort, not speed
