Later Start/Finish Times -Can they introduce it?
Rumours are flying around our office that RM management are about to force in the "later start/later finish" next month, our Union rep has said that we just stick with the hours we work already because the "later start/later finish" is part of the current pay dispute.
My question is "Can they (RM) introduce it?"
If we refuse to change, could we be disciplined?
(I do not want to be forced to work later in the day, I'll also lose out on about £12 with immediate effect cos I broke my service.)

I don't know if we can refuse or how to go about refusing.
Our Union rep did say that we lose our early shift allowance after the length of time we have already served upto a maximu of 3 years, i.e. I've been here 5 years so I will receive the paymet for 3 more years but someone who started 2 years ago will receive the payment for another 2 years.

Our office is trying to push this through before september, Me and a few others can't finish at 2:15 so we have been asked to fill in a form applying for flexi time, I've got to tell them the hours I am able to work and what days I have to pick the kids up.
Sounds dodgy as f**k to me this flexi lark, Anybody got any comments on it???

In our office we already have 'flexi-time', for the part-timers at least. They are told to turn up at different times varying from 06:00 to 09:30, depending on the whim of the screws. To RM 'Flexi-time' is casual labour and no good will come of it. Full timers beware: your ass is next. Unite anf FIGHT!

Our office is 40 hour contracts out, 22.5 hour contracts in.
We have had half a dozen or so leave since Xmas for variuos reasons. That is a 'saving' of at least 105 hours per week on contracted hours. Of course the 22.5 hour boys & girls are leant on to cover FT duties as the efforts of the screws to prepare walks for 'bag carriers' has been a miserable failure. Welcome to RM Flexi-time in the here and now.

if they put a letter round all us full-timers asking if we wanna buy down of hours , might be a surprise how many might do it if it means not worry about having a job! cud get a part-time one to fit in with it, and at least we get some payment for the buydown pending how long one has been there? The Sarge wrote:Our office is 40 hour contracts out, 22.5 hour contracts in.

Flexi working crap is part of the I/A issue.whitetrash wrote:Our office is trying to push this through before september, Me and a few others can't finish at 2:15 so we have been asked to fill in a form applying for flexi time, I've got to tell them the hours I am able to work and what days I have to pick the kids up.

We are striking against it!
The IR framework states that RM have got to honour disagreement through the appropriate means.
Trying all the time to force us into un-official action aren't they?!!

A lot of local councils have it, and we've got it at my work - although I've only had for three weeks so not much experience yet.whitetrash wrote: Sounds dodgy as f**k to me this flexi lark, Anybody got any comments on it???
For a 9-5 job it can be alright - you can get upto 18 days off a year by adding up 10 minutes here and there of overtime, and if you've been out on the piss, you can come in by 10 without getting into trouble (and leave from 4 if you need to as well). Since most people in 9-5 jobs work a little bit over their official hours pretty often, you generally gain rather than lose. But because you have to swipe in and swipe out (or we do anyway), if you're 15 minutes late in you lose that time rather than it getting written off, so I'm not sure it's that much of a benefit really apart from being able to claim the time back in bulk.
I think councils do it so people can take extra days off without having to throw a sickie - means they get the time out of you in the long run. Doesn't stop people from throwing sickies of course, but I reckon it takes the edge of statistics compared to places that just have normal 9-5.
Can't see it being a good thing in RM though with job and finish etc.

later start times
Any attempt to alter your contract of employment can only suceed with cwu or your agreement. Your contract of employment is deemed to be the task you usually perform ,at the time you usually perform it; irrispective of any written contract. Sign nothing, go to stage one dis agreement, work your usual hours. R.M,s only option is dismissal;however given the numbers involved, the fact that they would be in breach of contract such actions would be judged "constructive dismissal" and you would be elligable for compensation,it is an unlikely and costly scenario.

It's worth remembering as well that the USO means we have to have the mail delivered by 2pm at the latest each afternoon, so RM need to be careful about how late we are getting out to the rounds etc.............
Cheers for the replies so far, seems like every office is different but the tactics of RM are the same!
