CHANGE OF BREAK TIMES

We are now at a crossroads in our office as some folk are leaving packets and now 1st class mail as of saturday, however the DOM has said that he wants to change break times from 820 to another time that suits them ie 830 or 840 can anyone please tell me if this possible.

Can't see it matters what time you take your breaks, 7.5hrs is 7.5hrs, no matter how much management tries to bend it, shape it, anyway they want it. If workload is over the top, it's over the top, carry on cutting off.

What difference does this make to either cut offs or to your working day.
It might be a little mischevious by the Dom to get you all to panic and feel intimidated,go with it for it makes no difference as long as you can take it.

If you were all sitting doing nothing for 30 mins between 7.30 and 8.00 and then 10 minutes after a van arrived you all went off for a 40min break, changing the time of your break would make sense.
If that isn't the case, it won't make any difference to your day.

Agree but the times given were changing from 8.20 to 8.30 or 8.40 not exactly seismic.

Complicated answer: Employers can tell employees "when" to take a break as long as it complies with the following:

The requirements are:

* the break must be in one block
* it cannot be taken off one end of the working day - it must be somewhere in the middle
* you are allowed to spend it away from the place on your employer's premises where you work

So if you if you have your break somewhere in the middle, which would be around ten, and if you live near your walk ,or on your walk, you can still have it at home....yes? And the travel time would not be an issue , so you could still spend the whole 40 mins at home ...yes?

A qualified YES - as most DOMs in RM would fight it I think - also there would be some question over mail integrity and security as you are not allowed to take mail home.

The tack I can see most managers taking is enforcing the timing of the break to make if more difficult to take at home.

OK...What if your house is on route from finishing one pouch, to going to pick up another one??? you would then not be taking mail home with you...................................OR...............................What if your house is used for a bag drop, even your bag drop..????? what happens then....? mmmmmmmmmmmm?

What if you live in the DO and you are covering the backshift PHG duty?

And also......... can we not take our meal relief in two parts..??????..20 mins at work and 20 mins at home... or away from work??
