Re: are union reps to have set duty during resigns
area reps sometimes have full time release. local reps should go in the pick if they have any morals

Re: are union reps to have set duty during resigns
Im a local rep and was told there will be reps duties (agreed with regional delivery big wig manager) which upon ceasing to be rep the former rep would no longer hold and would go the new rep. Good idea in big offices, but for smaller ones like mine ad hoc release along with weekly resource meetings work fine. For example the rep could prep his del and then it goes out on OT and the rep stays inside to talk shop with the DOM/other manager.

Re: are union reps to have set duty during resigns
It raises a question there really, I mean, sooner or later smaller offices are going to be swallowed up by larger offices, because that is the nature of the beast - bigger means savings - sooooooooo what happens to the rep from the smaller office
- there will be a Rep and Sub Rep in the larger unit and I would imagine they would be reluctant to hand in their credentials for a newbie

Bad idea.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

It is a very bad idea and how could any rep even contemplate this with a clear conscience?POSTMAN wrote:Bad idea.

Re: are union reps to have set duty during resigns
Why would a rep need a "rep's duty" .
If a rep needs release they ask for release...if they don't they don't.
If they need time for paperwork they get time of IPS or help with their prep if the're PT...time when you need it not time built into your duty. What next..the rep needs every Saturday off because.....
I've never heard so much bollox in my life.
It's not hard to see where the "My rep's a lazy useless tosser" posts come from.

They come up for election every year/two years depending on the rules of any given branch and the type of position. My branch IR reps/branch officers are yearly and H and S reps every other year.
Also if a new office was built and three smaller units were all put into the building then a election would need to take place as technically no one could claim to be the rep for the new D.O

Don't panic there BD it was a hypothetical, though very probable, scenario. The unit with the largest member base is going to elect their rep - there would only be one way to decide as Harry Hill would say...............................Big Daz wrote:dvbuk55 wrote:It raises a question there really, I mean, sooner or later smaller offices are going to be swallowed up by larger offices, because that is the nature of the beast - bigger means savings - sooooooooo what happens to the rep from the smaller office- there will be a Rep and Sub Rep in the larger unit and I would imagine they would be reluctant to hand in their credentials for a newbie

Re: are union reps to have set duty during resigns
There is another way to look at it though - if both amalgamated offices are active in the Union then the main reps can become each others deputies in a fair election and the deputies and ordinary members could be the core of a proactive committee/council.dvbuk55 wrote:Don't panic there BD it was a hypothetical, though very probable, scenario. Its also a reason to keep an eye on when and how they amalgamate the different units or you might see strong and active CWU units overwhelmed by a weak ones.

Re: are union reps to have set duty during resigns
We are two offices sharing the same building.
We have two IR reps.
They fought us for 3 years trying to amalgamate into one office as we have a shared budget....then they gave up.
We have two seperate IPS,two seperate dbf fittings...one man each in the locker, seperate vans...we are awkward buggers.
They will come for us again i'm sure.

Re: are union reps to have set duty during resigns
Part of last years geo-route plan for our office there was a walk just outside our office little bit smaller than the rest. Which was supposed to be for me being the Rep. This was to allow me time with stage interviews and weekly resourcing meetings. Told planner no way all duties and no ring fencing

Ring fencing duties is a very interesting thing i reckon. What can cause a duty to be ring fenced? Surely it could cause whisperings of favouritsm especially if your never told the reason why a person gets to keep a specific duty.

There will be ring fencing...there always has been but it has to be open,it has to follow the rules and it should never encourage a conflict of interest..
Genuine DDA cases have to be ring-fenced but they should still utilise all paid hours even if the work involved is adapted to suit the disability.
Non-driving duties will probably have to be ring-fenced to avoid the situation where an office runs out of drivers.
Rep's duties....no thanks.
