Vacant Duty

Got a question for a CWU Rep? And all CWU related matters.

Vacant Duty

We have a vacant duty at the moment. The duty entails dropping bags off and delivering large specials, parcels & tracked items in the town.
The union rep & the manager have talked together and have decided to change the duty.

My question is. Can they change it without talking to the staff? Really, I suppose they can but should they without any talk to us? Our revision isnt until next year and so this duty will continue until RM issue us with wheelbarrows for 2 in a barrow or 2 on a skateboard.

What is supposed to be the proper procedure
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.

The rep should put his plan to you lot,has it cahnged for the good,has the rep changed it for his or his 'mates' benefit? :whistle

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

This should be discussed at a weekly resource meeting - the minutes should be posted on the unit noticeboard. There should be no secret deals.

No, not just 1 vacant duty Storm but it is the only one that they are trying to add extra onto without
extra hours to manage it in.

It is getting extra on it without any extra time to manage it. The only way I can see it working is by trying to lapse parcels onto the rurals. The rep isnt changing it for his or his mates benefit and I am sure he will be on this site reading this thread soon as he comes on RMC now and again. We have extra bits that are not on any duty and are currently getting done on OT but the dom wants these extra bits absorbed into duties so that there is no daily OT.
I was just curious about communication between rep and members regarding this and now that I have found out that it should be discussed with us I will talk to the rep.

One of the problem being a rep is no one wants change, staff also believe that duties can only be changed in a revsion. But rm are chasing savings all the time and a rep has to try to avoid as much change as possible its a balancing act ! In this climate the Rep seems to get all the flack when really this should be aimed at managers they are the ones chasing savings not the union.

Not trying to give our rep any flak, I just wondered what the protocol was. If dom wants to change a duty then it would be nice to know why. You never know there may be a better way if staff were involved.

TBH in our office we just have to many changes being proposed and implemented to be asking the members what they think, especially as for the most time they just say NO!, just saying no is no good to any Rep, we need alternative solutions, I mean if the Rep had a different solution then they would of already tried it.
Plus when do you call the meeting, not all DOMS will allow them in office, and every time we've tried calling meetings at the gate before we go in, or arranged to meet in a hall, we get less than 10% turn up.
To me it would seem whatever a Rep does is wrong, I'm not sure why a lot of us continue doing it, but for the thought of how much worse the office would be without Reps.

Good points posted above.Just wonder what they will do when they is nothing left to cut, some office most be nearly in that postion.
