20 years + service

can anyone tell me if you're entitled a day off to go to 20+years day out .manager told bloke in my office he cant have the day off to go to the races 2 saturdays ago because it was an evening meeting so he did'nt have to leave early . in the end he came to work and finished his delivery about 11.45 but did'nt gotothe races because he was to knackered .last year 2 posties got the saturday off to attend the long service day out because it a day meeting . i would like to know what the offical line is as its mine next year .

I dont think there is a proper code for days off for this 20 year thing. Ive seen it a couple of times where the postie has had to come in on a sat and complete his delivery and not get off till 12 noon then go home in a mad rush and get ready for the BIG day with a group of Managers you dont even know

Depends how you feel about 20 years i guess but for me i was happier to have a bottle of wine at home with the family and not really think about it too much.

Oh, I don't know. I think it's a major achievement to still be in RM after 20 years. Especially when they seem to be trying so hard to get rid of FT Staff. Why shouldn't people get the day off and a day at the races, for surviving so long. It seems like the LEAST they can do.

For me i am not into to horse racing and tend not to gamble so it really did not apeal all that much. Why not give a us voucher for say £75 so you could take a guest out for a meal and go somewhere your that you really want and with whom ?

Bang on ! And thats the problem as the whole thing turns into a jolly night/day out for a few managers and the real people get forgotten. Nearly everyone ive ever spoken too who has attended the dinner or the race day wished they had not bothered and most ended up spending money they wished they had saved.

I think it all sounds a good idea at the time. I spoke to a friend who went to a hotel dinner and he recons the meal was ok but he was placed on a table with his wife and a load of strangers who all felt a bit awkward. He left early and it cost him £40 for a cab as he did not wait for the coach home. The managers and thier partners had a room for the night, nice.

dont know dont care about working that day or nxt day im due my 20 yrs shortly and i hope all the top brass are there for the bash wherever it is cos im gonna be well pished and i dont hold back at best of times i could see security being needed that eve especially if missus goes as well cos shes sick of rm mgmt as much as myself
