Prepare for turmoil in Royal Mail
by Charlie Kimber

Confrontation in Royal Mail is virtually guaranteed as the public sector pay curbs dictated by the government are combining with bosses’ determination to cut costs in order to compete against TNT and other private mail operators.

The D2D thing was mentioned at my AGM,i think i posted it up,but the union put the kibosh on it apparently.
I can see all this being true and not scaremongering.
We are in for some serious rows soon.
This has got to be ours and the Unions biggest ever test, and fight,in my time anyway.
Congratulations the EU,The Government, and Postconn. :Applause

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

re: Most of this has happened since I left

I saw this on the cards before I left RM. Management had been avoiding a major change in Operations since 2003. Most of what has been printed sounds like ideas which were worked up as part of a business plan to secure the investment from the Governmnet for automation.

This has become worse as the profit targets required to gain the investment won't be met (not sure why, someone mis-calculated and has probably gone to ground).

Something will give as not all of those proposals will go in (inertia and ability to change in RM) is not anywhere near the level required.

We all know working practices will change as with Single Daily Delivery. some areas will be able to adpat more easily than others, which are dependent on numerous factors. Management Leadership capability, Union involvement, communication etc....

As I've said all along. A workforce of about 100,000 tops who are paid well, trained, invested in etc... is the way forward rather than McJobs. (not offence to them but it is a shite job and paid badly).
