Why is everything so secretive

Post by iamnotadoormat »

We are now into stage 3 of our proposed revision. As far as i remember part of the new agreement was that all staff would be consulted as to the proposed changes. So why is that at this late stage none of the planning team have consulted any of us yet.....looks like they dont want our input!!!!!! or dont want us to see how much we are going to be shafted!!!!! :dance

Same hear - being in a Spdo we dont see the lino very often but our rep ( who has the easier rounds and could/should get shafted the most) hasnt heard a thing supposidely. We hear rumours but reps not interested in find ing anything out and no input from here at all.

Have you tried walking into them and asking whats going on, or are you counting on them to let you know when its all over and to late in the day.
Try being proactive, ask questions, learn about the revision processes and then give um hell, till everything is done fairly, following all the guide lines.
And If after all that your still not happy as an office tell the Rep to explain to your Dom he's not going to sign off anything till all the concerns of the office are addressed. :wave

Surely Geezer is it not the responsibility of management and cwu to work in accordance with the agreement, and to discuss everything that is going on with those who will ultimately carry out the new delivery structure. As workers we are under so much pressure what with lapsing, flexing and everything else that has been dragged up from the 2007 modernisation agreement that none of us really has the will to go chasing around trying to find out things that should be automatically discussed and received our agreement or disagreement. In our sub we have received one notification written from our main DO with signature of the local rep who has approved these measures without any discussion with us. It is like the whole cwu strucrure from the top to the local rep is in bed with the management .

It's very simple, reps are meant to represent their members' views.

How can the reps know what the members think if they don't tell them what the proposal is?

The CWU need to insert a working definition of 'confidentiality' into the rule book and all IR frameworks. It is a disgrace that management can mark anything they like as 'confidential' and our reps never challenge it.

I wasn't trying to say you were wrong, i was just trying to point out that if you just sit back and except things then it will be to late when the changes are brought in.
I'm like you, i want to come in do my round and forget about RM and work, But at the moment with all that's happening i also want to try and make sure we don't as an office get screwed over,
so i put myself out and go and question everything my Dom is doing and if i don't like the answers i get back from him then i phone the ADR or come on hear and try to get info.
Now i could just sit back and wait till everything is done and dusted, then have a moan but as i said before by then its all to late. We are all grown men and women who work for RM so why do we need
to wait for the CWU or DOMs to let us know what's going on or what's happening with revisions,
If this was your kids that were saying this to you, i bet you would tell them to get on with it themselves and not wait or rely on others to do things for them.
we all need to start realising that we have a collective responsibility when it comes to the work place, and not to just think " I give the Union £3.00 a week so they can get on with it and leave me alone "
We are the Union at the end of the day, there may be lots that need changing in it but nothing will change until we all start to get involved to bring about that change. :wave

Good post Geezer :Applause :Applause I also personally feel that more people in D/Os should get turned on to the fact
that this is THEIR revision, and that they all need to get involved in discussing all the Options that this Agreement has
to offer them for surely if you just sit back and wait for all things to happen you WILL end up with a pile of Sh**e :wave :wave

We have finally got staff on board for the revision after a horrendous proposal was put on the wall and there was a call to arms, prior to that no one wanted to get involved and the work was down to me and the DOM .

Everything now is supposed to be done from the bottom up,ooh err missus!, and there is no longer diktats being passed from high, down through you DOM about what how and where you are to make your savings ,so yes you all should be involved in the proposals of any savings and change in your work place.

Yeah, you do pay £3.00 for your union subs and I try to move heaven and earth to help union members but at the end of the day I am doing this for free, mostly in my own time and I am constantly wondering why I am doing this.

Your planner should be asking for staff to get involved at each stage.

We have the initial Georoute maps up on the wall, and a few of us have sat and gone through all the walks on the computer to tidy them up and get rid of the daft sections that georoute puts together (walks criss crossing etc). The new maps with the loops on will then go up for people to look at again, before we are asked if they are do-able.

We've also been told that the walk plans have been done based on a very heavy day with a high call rate, and from what i've seen so far it looks like that's true.

So in that case it wouldn't suprise me one bit if we're collapsing again come next summer :chuckle

BedfordLi, I appreciate what you are saying and Geezer, having been a union rep myself in another life. However we are constantly seeing on this forum that many reps are not doing the job that they put themselves forward for, and are sucking up to the management to improve their own lot. I certainly wouldn,t want the job again, as I know to my own cost that the bulk of people you support do not give a toss until they themselves are effected and then they expect you to move heaven on earth. However, I could not under any circumstances take on such a position just to enhance my own situation, and if there are reps on this forum that no they are taking the p-ss, then they should hang their heads in shame.

I agree 100% with you about people not caring till it involves them, and not stepping up when you need their support.
As for the bad Reps, again people need to step up to the plate and have them removed. If you all get together as an office and put in a complaint surly the CWU must take action and remove him/her.
As for them looking after themselves, you should collectively let your DOM know you will not agree any changes unless they are all fair and above board so if the Rep has taken the piss with his duty ect
there will be no agreement. Remember he should be getting your agreement before he can sign anything off, if not the put in a grievance.
