Another Fine Mess

In our delivery office we have just gone on later starts,6.30 am - 14.30 pm.
We got off Ips at 8.00am today,9am the manager gives the usual COLLAPSING 3 WALKS shout.
10 walks are van sharing and have been for a year now,Still another 36 walks to go then the whole office van share,Anyway,We left the office to deliver our 4 hour 30 min walk at 9.40am,Usually between 9.10 and 9.40 we get out,Impossible to get out any earlier because of the times the vans drop the mail to our office to be sorted.
Here is what we are expected to do in the 4 hours 50 mins we had from when we left the office today.

1.50 mins conveyancing.
2.4 hour 30 min delivery.
3.40 mins meal break.
4.10 mins puching off.
5.20 mins collapse.

The round has even been tested and agreed by the boss it is too big,Yet still nothing is done 5 weeks on,Had the job been too small i guarantee they would have given us extra,Oh he has also told us soon we will be taking tracked items but need to be trained on the PDA'S,So more to take.

Every day me and the lad i work with go over,It has to be stupidly light just to get 15 mins early finish.

We are expected to finish and just book the extra,Today i said enough of the bullshit,The more we do it the easier it is for them,So we said we cant complete

Boss said leave what u cant do,It will still be there tomorrow,So we left 1 hour of delivery in the frame and our part of the collapse,still we went 20 mins over.

Sure enough it was still there when we got back,So tomorrow we will cut off and the day after,Until the w****r does something about it and fixes the job.

Is this not willfull delay by the managers?

I Know managers often go to other offices to help clear the load but none came to ours today because on monday our boss was asked to go to another office to help and she said No,Now it seems the boot is on the other foot and i for one am happy.

What really pisses me off is we bust our balls completing every day,Yet the one time we dont we are quizzed as if we are being lazy,Made to feel like it is our duty to go over and say nothing.

They push and push and push,Collapse every day of the week,Well enough is enough,I dont mind working my 8 hours,Never have done,But will not be forced to go over and treated like a doormat,I have 2 kids and would much rather be with them than tramping the streets for longer than i need to.

We're due our "full bundled revision" van share etc coming in in October....

I do not intend to go over, ever, never have, not sure how many will though...

How many others at your place are cutting off ghost? Are people getting fed up with going over , or do some like the docket still?

What happens in van share if one wants to cut off, but not the other?

Everyone needs to start negotiating their overtime payments :- some in my office are now saying they want 10hrs pay or £100 depending on what you choose to work a day off. Some want £1000 to work a holiday week and the rest cut off, obviously some will work the normal rate but the fever is spreading and the Dom is panicking. The holiday is over for Royal Mail as far as my office is concerned, time to show em' the true cost of delivering mail and cut backs.

I can see where you are coming from by saying SOME should be ashamed, and yes you are right, but where i am ,lack of support from colleagues does not deter me, the union does support me and a couple of others, no peer pressure , i dont try and finish early, WHY? just fill your eight hours . Daily battles with managers, bring it on, when you know what you can do and cant do it does baffle them and sometimes i do feel sorry for them.( did i really say that aloud ?) You can glean loads of info off this site. The managers only a bully if let them...if you know you are right about any matter, then stand your ground, let THEM prove you are wrong. Number 8.........Just work within the rules that they set out , they cant sack you for nothing....i know some query that
Dont ever make a statement that you are working to rule, if you have to just say that you are doing the job properly.
Any bullying managers, put in a grievence and follow it up, dont just let it be swept under the carpet. I get loads of s**t off management , but i am still here..

I decided to tackle things head on today about the D2D prepped in my section of overtime on another walk, which did not comply with the instructions (meant to be columns for clearly defined days on sheet), so I removed them from the frame before going out on overtime delivery...

I asked my lino to come over to said frame and in front of lino and the regular postie I explained exactly why I removed the D2D, which now carries the same "willful delay" as addressed letters. "Local agreement" practices on frames work fine between the regular and their standard "day off cover" but a random postie covering all or part of such a round simply needs to comply with the official procedure.

I could have delivered all that D2D to the section I was doing (~125 houses), it would have easily doubled the weight of the bundles and taken me longer to deliver (so more overtime pay). However, as much as I am happy to help out my lino by doing overtime, I felt it was a good time to make sure he gets no ideas about bending rules to his agenda (in this case, I'm not going to play "slave" for the day by taking out D2D that I am not required to deliver, just for an extra quid or two overtime). I will do the job to the best of my ability on a given day, according to the official procedures in place...

Our DOM has now been told to offer 4 hours for working a day off. It would be laughable if I didn't know for a fact that there are at least half a dozen people who will do it. Funnily enough it's the ones who came in during the strikes.

Why can't people understand that if you all say no they will have to pay more Never mind, I don't work them anymore anyway, prefer a lie in
