Lapsing Question

I am on a 22 1/2 hour contract and have been informed by a workmate that i should not be asked to do lapsing on this contract.
Can anyone confirm if this is the case please.

Your colleague is wrong.......you shouldn't be doing any IPS but you can be asked to lapse if there is time within your duty :)

Thats a local arrangement and so, sorry,it can not be assumed that its a national position.

Lapsing can only be done as per the previous post - "where time exists within normal hours" (As per the P&M07 agreement), so unfortunately even if your duty is 1 hour long and they ask you to lapse 15 minutes of another duty, then they are within the agreement if time exists.

Not going to sorry as it misses the point. I did not say I agreed with it or whether its possible or not. The important part is "where time exists" - if he doesn;t have the time then he doesn't do it.

However, its the postie ultimately that has to say NO and then has to make sure that he works to his time. Lapsing came in 3 years ago and I have had to do it 6 times in total, why, because time does not exist and I "do the job properly" but to the best of my ability.

I think we have to change the mindset of managers and posties alike.

Managers: Its not just about getting the mail out of the door its about making sure the workload is both fair and manageable.

Posties: Its not just about building barriers against something you disagree with, but about proving that your position is correct by example. Follow the "Do you job properly" guidance work hard but be sensible, don't run - but likewise don't dawdle, don't work overtime if you don't want to, but also don't cut corners just to make time.

No..it's not.
It's made up from any time inside your working hours.
If,on a quiet tuesday your delivery only takes 3hrs then you have capacity to lapse.

That's wrong though. Even if he's on a 4 and half hour contract take off 20mins meal relief and throw in a quiet Tuesday on a job that hasn't been through pegasus and you have a 13:00 finish or earlier? So leaving time for a bit of lapsing.

Pain in the arse but only fair really that you work the hours you get paid for..

Like TBT said. If you genuinly haven't got the time then say so and don't lapse.

If you have the time be honest and do a bit. At the end of the day it won't kill ya to do and exta 15-20 mins would it. Some spend more time arguing about it than they would do if they just did it.

The WTL is irrelevant.
The point about lapsing is it has nothing to do with IPS or prep.
If you have spare capacity inside your working hours you can be asked to lapse.
Obviously the closer your contracted hours get to your delivery span the less opportunity there will be to lapse but that doesn't mean you are exempt because you only deliver....only that it will be more difficult.
