I have asked for the day off for my mother-in-law's funeral and my manager has said I will have to take a lieu day or unpaid as she is not a blood relative, I was allowed for my father in law a few years ago but it is a different manager. surely this is wrong?

Hi sorry about your loss but your dom is right, had this in our office last week we were down on staff but the dom gave him a days leave after we swapped duties here and there.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Idsposti, you are incorrect, and so is your DOM. Look at last weeks thread on Bereavement as a lad at our place was treated the same way with the death of his father inlaw. Following Fishtanks reply and information you will see that you are entitled to a days leave with pay for bereavement of an in-law. Our postie has had the holiday that he was going to take reinstated following this information and a days paid leave for him to attend the funeral. DO NOT PUT UP WITH THIS TREATMENT FROM THESE UNINFORMED DOMS
