"Have you got any I.D?, I can't give mail out without it" - Me
- Man on street
Am i the only one who get's wound up by these idiots? I must get asked to hand mail out like candy at least ten times a day and nearly everytime i ask for I.D I get funny looks, sighs and sometimes even insults. Do these morons not consider that thieves may be doing the exact same thing when i have their mail in my hand? And why is it they are so desparate for junk mail on the street but moan about it while stood on their driveways? Most times now i just say "i might do, but it will be for later on in another bundle in my bag", they then tend to leave you alone although some are cheeky enough to ask you to "check"
Alot of the time these people are scroungers after their giro, but often the most respectable looking pensioner can turn sour after you pop the question.
How do you deal with these people? Are these situations a common occurance on your walk?
ye it winds me up, even if theyre outside the door i dont like giving the mail to them if the door is closed. they think they saving me time too, but the time it takes/spent in conversation overides the time it takes for me to post it myself

Don't be a tease TB!
You're sending out mixed messages here, the customer could get all worked up thinking they're going to get some only for you not to put out at the last moment. Be firm with them, tell them you're not that kind of Postie and most of all.......No means no!

Just answer "non comprend" as if you're one of the East European agency staff and carry on regardless.

Same here. The general rudeness of the public pisses me off, too. Just last week a guy was pulling off his drive in his car, pulled up next to me while winding down the window and said "22" while holding his hand out, didn't even look at me! I replied by saying "what about it?" to which he replied in a sarcastic tone "is there any mail for it?!". Safe to say he didn't appear to have any that day, or the next day, or the day after...

If i was not on my regular delivery and someone asked me "Anything for No. xx?" I used to reply "If you can go and open the front door of No. xx with a key, then I will give you the mail"
About 1 in 10 would bother, the others usually said "Oh, I haven't got time for that, put them through the door"
I ask people to open their door if they ask me for mail in their garden and I don't know they live there/never seen them before at that address.
I have one old lady in sheltered accommodation who asks if I have anything for her, so I check, says yes, she says "I'll take it then to save you going". Ok then... then she sees what it is and says, "oh no, you can put that through if you don't mind"
I've just flicked thru a bundle in the p*ss*ng rain and you now want me to flick thru to put it back in again.
I've started to just walk past her faster and pretend not to see her until the last moment.

Which suited me just fine
Is it posh where you deliver ? Using roman numerals for '20' and all that ?
Last summer I was on a delivery to a street which is full of big old town houses turned into bedsits full of pissheads/smackheads/dossers and this was about half ten and there was a group of 10-15 of them sat on the steps outside getting well stuck into the special brew!
They see me coming and start getting excited about the imminent giro arrival and start asking for them in the street.
No way was I handing them out so I explained that they had to go through the letter box and they could do what they wanted with them after that.
A few started getting a bit stroppy and then this massive ratarsed one stood up slurring "get back and let the man do his job" as his cleared me a path.
