"Buying" leave?

Firstly, is it possible to get more annual leave than your entitlement? If so is this "bought" in the traditional sense ie with money, or does it just go unpayed? I ask because we got our leave allocation sheets to fill in last week, how would i go about arranging more leave if it is infact possible?

Yes, you can -you can buy extra weeks to take you up to the maximum of 6 weeks (less if you are on the Wallington System)

The money is taken out of your wages before you get them - I can't quote the current figures but it used to be around £5 for each week (pro rata for extra days, and i left RM 2 years ago so will have changed) - and you get paid basic for the extra time you have off.

Your lino or DOM should be able to give you a form to apply - you will have to be quick though as it would have to be set up before you return your current leave allocation forms - it runs from April to March each year so would apply for next year.

I was editing my post when you replied TB, so just to say that figure of £5 I quoted was the amount before I left RM, which was 2 years ago nearly, so will have changed since then with the wage increases

I think the problem is that people don't realise that you get paid your basic for the extra time you have off, and think you are paying twice for it

can anyone explain why i can't buy more leave just because i have the full 6 weeks entitlement already i am victimised as they say that you can't have more than 6 weeks but never explain why not.

Well kind of but your not going to like it:

By law RM only have to give their staff so many days holiday and it has to be paid. Anything beyond that entitlement is between the company and its staff, or their representatives. RM have decided we can purchase leave only up to a total of 6 weeks with purchased and entitlement combined.

RM could I suppose at some point just give everyone the basic entitlement (4 weeks IIRC) and withdraw all purchased leave, and all entitlement beyond the statutory minimum, and yes I can see it happening at some point.

The simple answer you are looking for is that RM do not offer any annual leave beyond 6 weeks per year whether paid or not and thats why you cant purchase any when you reach 6 weeks entitlement.

but what difference would it make to royal fail as i woul be paying for it myself?
