Confirming Registered Items

I don't understand what you mean. How are they to ascertain whether delivery was made or not if somebody is still out on delivery? Or are they just going to blag it? Throw darts at yeses and nos and punch the result into the machine? I guess that's what they do with policy, so it wouldn't be completely out of character.

The've done this for years...it's called default confirmation.
If you didn't 90% of your specials would show up as failures.
How else is a walking guy supposed to confirm delivery before 1.30 when he doesn't finish until 2pm at the moment and 3pm in the future.

Yes, all of ours are confirmed unless we phone in before 13:30 and advise if we have been unable to deliver.

Same as those tracked broadband packs from BT,they tell you to just leave them anywhere but if you ask them to give you a simple written note saying this,it's a different story!

"Special Delivery items are not to be confirmed by default",that is from Senior management.Ask your DOM to put his instruction in writing to cover yourselves.

So if the sender checks the 13 digit code on the Royal Mail web site at 2pm they will be informed it has been delivered even if nobody was in, it was advised and the postman is returning with it to the delivery office ?

The real problems start if the card isn't handed in the following morning because then the item stays confirmed delivered despite the fact that it could be lying in a P.O. somewhere.
This practice has been flagged up a number of times to management and the union and sod all has been done about it.
It would be a bit ironic if something was done about it now considering it won't be an issue when we all finish back at the D.O. shortly

We've been told at my office to phone in and confirm if we aren't back at the office by 2pm. I don't see why I should have to use my mobile to phone the office, It was said that I'd be able to get any credit I use back but I feel that getting it back would be job and a half so I'm refusing to use my phone, I never got my bus fare back during the snow . That leaves using a call box and reversing the charges which I tried and the person in the office refused lol .Then I got told off by a manager the following day for not ringing in to confirm it, I explained what happened and he said use my mobile to phone in and walked off shaking his head

Given that the drivers have PDAs - doesn't it make sense for them to do all the Special Deliveries?
In that way we use the technology at hand, solve the problem of confirmed or not and save the walking postie any grief.

Too many specials (300-400)....not enough drivers.
Might work in the smaller offices............
