Part Timers Trying To Make Fools of Full Timers.

Why is it that when a Full timer goes on leave or on the sick the part timer comes on his or her walk runs around like a lunatic and finishes it in half the time the full timer would, what are they trying to proof ?
All I can say is the manages are looking at the times the part timer finishes and then lays into the full timer on his/her return, not taking into consideration the full timer has been on the ips sorting and lapsed as well. You part timers out there SLOW DOWN your cutting your own throats at the end of the day…and your trying to make a fool of your colleagues….

To try and balance out your post, I'm going to try and show the other side of the coin...

What if the full timer is trying to make managers belief that what is an easy walk takes longer than it really does? I heard of a full timer going to the barbers and having lunch at home before returning to the depot earlier than 1300, being allowed to go home after dropping off undelivered items.
As part timers have barely any "seniority" at all, they often get the rediculously oversized walks that are very tricky to complete inside contract time. If such a part timer is then put on the full timer's easier round, then its in their intrest to complete it quicker as long as they are doing all tasks properly, to show that their regular larger round really needs more time.

I regularly see four posties from another section in my depot cycling back upto 90 minutes before their contract time, even with some lapsing, when I'm barely half way around my duty. They go back, unload and get paid until 1400 while doing unrelated work pleasures, while I'm still delivering. Have you any idea how angry that makes me and others on larger rounds? They are effectively getting a "ghost salary increase," as they are paid a similar salary rate to me but are able to comfortably complete their walk substantially quicker on a daily basis.
I would jump at the chance to do any of their rounds for a week, do the job properly and make a point to the managers of my finish time. Why? Because "job and finish" ceased to be as part of the agreement, yet our depot managers have enforced "everyone comes back after their duty" but then do not assign tasks until their contract finish time. Every postie deserves a fair pay for a fair day's work.

I'm one that does work my hours, but saying that I'm not going to rush around like a lunatic, if these guys(Full Timers) are finishing well before their time, mangers should find other work for them inside or outside, if they cant find work its the managers problem, maybe if full timer finishes early manager should say go and help part timer out there who is struggling..
One part timer at my office does it in the car and comes in early,races around like lunatic then does overtime, then to add the salt in the wound he tell the full timer "your walks a piece of piss"..

Its probally because the part timer is stuck in the rut of rushing around like an idiot trying to complete or make 5 mins in their contracted hours .When they are put on an "easier full timers walk " (which most are because of seniority and unequal walks) they just go on auto pilot and do it as they normally do .Only at the finsh do they realise they've just made an hour and can slow down or go home early

I think you've got the gist of this thread the wrong way round. I'm a part timer with a start time of 7.30. Usually I come in between 7.15 - 7.30, and at least half the mornings the full timers have thrown in their mech, flats and emptied their packet bags. It was worse when I was on a 25-hour contract, I used to come in around 9.15, often to find flats on my bench and a full packet bag while the full timers would be milling around the IPS frame, having already bagged up and taken their bags down to their cars.

I always do new walks a bit quicker than mine, it's nice to have a change of scenery. Otherwise it's a bland monotone of meaninglessness, driving onwards through the same things as yesterday, and the day before that, and tomorrow. I do some walks quickly, in say 2.5 hours, and others in a full 4 hours. That's just life, I don't worry about it too much. I don't know why people consider it to be some kind of personal affront to them if someone else does their walk in less time. It's not really a race, and that's a criticism of both parties, it's merely a matter of pacing yourself, and as we all know every individual has a different pace, a different level of fitness, a different style. Sometimes, you get on a walk and you hit a nice rhythm. Other times you don't.

I don't worry about it. It does irk me somewhat that my rota man doesn't bother doing my redirections and dead letters though, which means his 12pm finish may look good in theory, but tends to pale into insignificance when you look upon the quality of his work and judge it from that point of view. As long as you do a good job, I think you are deserving of praise, but unfortunately there are those who are possessed by some manner of crazed tunnel vision that sees only the end of the day and the time they can cruise back to their pad and mellow out on porn/playstation/whatever. It's them kind of posties what make me, the incompetent postie who's a 'trier', look bad. Especially when I'm doing a street and am reminded (critically) that they received their post an hour earlier 'yesterday, when the other guy was doing it.'

Divide and conquer thats their game and what a fooking blinding game they'e are playing .Remember before SDD came in and everyone started at the same time ,threw their own walks in and got on with it .The f/t's did the second delivery those were the best days in this job

The amount of miss-preps I get back after my cover man does it totally astounds me...........Did you actually deliver any f*cking letters?

My full time walk is anything but easy and many people in my office have told me how s**t it is and that I was a mug to sign for it. The way I see it is, if it's so bad there's little chance of someone senior wanting to sign for it or any more roads being added to it. I won't lie though I can make time on my walk, when I first started on it I wanted to see how fast I could get it done if I really tried so I ran round it hurdling walls between houses and running up the stairs to the flats; I managed to shave off 45mins. The floater who covers my walk on my day off manages to finish about 30mins to an hour early every time he is on it so that's what he must be doing. That said you are spot on about the unequal walks, I've covered a few senior full timers walks on my day off and blimey! If I can make an hour on a walk I've never done before on top of getting out the door late due to not knowing the frame and taking longer to prep it then there is something VERY wrong there.

Lots of walks in my office are unequal and it's not just the F/T walks.
