Willful Delay ??

Post by Cybitech »

This morning, a lot of the staff in our office were moaning about how much work they had because of the strike.
As we usually get 2 lorries every morning with mail, most of the staff had decided that they were going to cut-off and finish to time, bringing what mail was left back to the office.

But when the DOM heard this, he decided that all of the mail from the 2nd lorry was going to be held back in the office until tomorrow, and he wanted the staff to work to their time with whatever mail they had up until then. Is this classed as willful delay ? or just an executive decision where the DOM gets away with it ?

Anyone any ideas where we stand on this ?

how is it, when management hold back a load of yorks of flats, letters and packets it's ok, but if we bring one letter back to the office it's willful delay and goodbye ?

I think they took the right decission there, and fair play to them for managing well.

I don't think willfull delay is there to penalise people for bringing a letter back but it gives them sufficient grounds to stop postmen being lazy.

most of the postmen in our office cut-off anyway, regardless of what the DOM said, and brought a load of mail back, so really wouldn;t it have been better to get what was there sorted, and just let the lads cut-off. Either way it was going to be a failure, but this way we have a hell of a load to sort tomorrow morning, lol ??

fair play to them for managing well?some of your post's are full of sh*t,the only reason mail was left today was to stop people cutting off,i'd love to know how that is managing well--it dont take a rocket scientist to make a decision like that.

willful delay

Post by vigilante »

Willful delay is there to get post people but it is still hard to prove.
you should claim it was accidental delay, how can they prove you did it on purpose in most cases???
Management are so hypocritical they leave mail all the time when it suits their cause!!

i remember only last year, when our local area mail center forgot about a whole articulated trailer load of mailsorts. They were sat there for a couple of weeks before anyone did anything, then they just got introduced into the system. Nobody got any sh*t for that, just us lowly posties who had to deliver the stuff.

Someone in our office just came back after a weeks leave and foud a docket left packet still in their bag. The person did need the package and it was now out of date and no use.

Management seems to have given him a slight telling off but not taken or threatened any action. It was an honest mistake and he is a good postman.

It seems that managers vary throught the country and that our office is probably better than most.

P.S. I would write a reply ianpostie but I just can't be arsed.

I would honestly like to know how you came to this opinion. As from experience it seems to me that they use it as a big stick to wind up hard working posties who have asked for help or made a genuine mistake. How can you tell if a postman is lazy apart from walk testing and prep testing them.

The last couple of days our DIM has been putting yorks and koffins at the back of the office so we don't touch them,1st class,DSA,and the like.
When he's not looking we get them and tip them

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
