Part timers and Double amount of D2D's
This is just a theoretical question (at the moment). I am a reserve and could cover up to 5 walks in a week. What do I do if, for instance, I do half the D2D's on one walk, then half on another. If this was to be repeated on other walks I could end up doing 2 and a half times the norm. I know we are supposed to do one sixth but in reality, with absences or other foreseen circumstances this could arise.

What is the agreement in your office? Why are you doing half?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Re: Part timers and Double amount of D2D's
Doing 5 different walks in a week is a floater duty and you do 1/6 a day on each walk.
All you have to do is 1/6 a day in the unlikely circumstance as a reserve cover you do 5 different walks in a week the same applies, down to Dom to worry about how rest of d2d are delivered if that's the way they want to use you.

Re: Part timers and Double amount of D2D's
as said, theres no reason you should be doing 50% a day
the D2D's should be split evenly across the week
when im on different duties i just do 20% a day(in our office its still no D2D on a Saturday)

Re: Part timers and Double amount of D2D's
I think one problem is (only 0ne?)
if a PTer picks up a duty that's been prepped they have no idea what's in the bag until they're out on the duty!
People who prep the duties don't like throwing off the D2Ds and have their own ideas, i.e bung them all in as quick as poss!
I know some posties (no names no pack drill) who will "Recycle" any D2Ds they find if there's no mail included for that address.
This can't be good for the business but when it used to be possible to make £80 on a week, if you were delivering two or three big duties that had been lapsed (if you had some 3p newspapers). What incentive is there to bust a gut for the present payments? I didn't vote for it, but serves themselves right to the winging buggers that used to complain about the old D2D system R.I.P

Re: Part timers and Double amount of D2D's
It hasn't actually happened to me YET, just hypothetical, but old habits die hard. If this scenario were to arise, postie throws all his D2D's in for delivery but is taken sick next day, and this situation were to arise 5 times in a week, highly improbable I know. Some D2D's blend in with mail and you wouldn't know until you were out on delivery, only getting paid pro rata of course adds insult to injury, literally.

Re: Part timers and Double amount of D2D's
That sounds a bit too organised JCL, not like RM at all, I take it you must have done it yourselves?
Have you got any duties in your office that are Delivery Only? We've got lots
They're intended to be delivered by PTers on 24 hr ish contracts. The theory being it's prepped and bagged up by a FTer (as well as prepping their own duty). The bags have to be ready and taken out to the Bag drops by the FT van duties because by the time the PTer turns up at 0900 there's no-one in the office.
Sometimes the first bag is left on the frame, These Delivery Only Duties where increased in size after the last cock up (the one we went on strike to stop) and are all 500ish Delivery Points. They are a genuine 4 Hour Plus slog.
I believe this was the original idea based on the "Dutch Housewives" system. Needless to say this only works when no-ones sick or on leave and your up to strength. Otherwise it's same as RBs experience

Re: Part timers and Double amount of D2D's
Full-timers should have to prep in the D2D, simple as that. They're supposed to in our office but, as usual, some do and some don't. End of the day, FT staff are getting twice the money that PT staff get for delivering the same amount of material. I was on a van share with a FT colleague this week - we split the D2D equally, delivered exactly the same amount (+/- 10 houses) yet he gets double the money I do? How in the f**k should that be allowed by law, even?

Gotta love smart answers
It's still a matter of fact that full timers get twice the 'compensation' payment for delivering that D2D added onto their wages.

Ok then....contained in my "delivery supplement" of £20.60 there is my £12.37 ESA so....my "compensation" payment is actually £8.23.MentalVortex wrote:Gotta love smart answers![]()

How is that fair?
Not so much of a matter of "fact" really is it?

prove it then if you believe its a fact then you must have something to back it up.MentalVortex wrote:Gotta love smart answers![]()

The 2010 agreement s quite clear all you have to do is work directly in the delivery function, no mention of doing D2Ds. Although if your right I could ask the locker staff to prep mine as the get the supplement but don't even see a D2D the whole week.
It has been agreed to cease and incorporate the total value of these payments (£52m Door to Door, and £40m delivery early shift allowance and grandfather rights) into a new permanent (non-pensionable) supplement to basic pay. This is payable to all delivery office employees directly tagged to and working in the delivery function. The supplement will increase in value as agreed in basic pay rises. It will flow through in 2011 and 2012. It will be paid 52 weeks a year at the rate of £20.60 per week, pro rata for part time employees and applies to new entrants.

In essence we end up with less compensation than even a 20 hour PTimer.

Going round in circles its like Groundhog day on here same bitchin and carping from PTs day after day, no matter how many times you tell them the facts.fishtank wrote:Ok then....contained in my "delivery supplement" of £20.60 there is my £12.37 ESA so....my "compensation" payment is actually £8.23.MentalVortex wrote:Gotta love smart answers![]()

Re: Part timers and Double amount of D2D's
Might be like Groundhog Day to someone who has nothing better to do with their life than sit on a forum about their workplace every day. I come in here once in a blue moon and have a quick look around (I say once in a blue moon, I think I've been on here about three times in total). So, it's not like Groundhog Day to me. In fact, I'm just having a laugh here thinking that while you're getting all annoyed, I now actually don't mind as much about the whole D2D thing, having read the last couple of posts. Cheers
