Van sharing nightmare

We have started van sharing. Its a complete nightmare, walks are larger, the trolleys holding 2 bags are pathetic as you have to carry parcels with you. Nobody is managing to complete their walk, what planet were the planners on?

How long are your loops in average time if its not 20 minutes then it sounds like your management team and or planner have made errors then.

The lightweight trolleys can hold 2 pouch bags and I don't think any 20 minute loop will fill both bags with just bundles, so hopefully there should be room for packets that can be carried easily. If not then the packets should be delivered, ideally with rest of the mail, by the driver of the team making individual calls just like firms drivers do.

Shared car-derived van use is where 2 or 3 staff work together to deliver their walks by operating from a vehicle. The group accelerates itself from the office to the start of the delivery in a vehicle that then acts as a nucleus, from which the group operates. The deliveries are broken-down into short ‘bursts’ that normally start and finish at the vehicle. The ‘bursts’ take approximately 20 minutes each and this results in staff spending less time working alone and allows a smaller pouch to be used. Where the road layout makes longer bursts more suitable a Lightweight Delivery Trolley (Golf trolley) should be considered as a method of reducing the weight carried.

Don't worry, we started van sharing 18 months ago it was a total f#ck up and only lasted two or three weeks with no-one completing their rounds. We then went back to individual rounds and van sharing hasn't returned. Yet another Royal Fail disaster.

Answer: On shared deliveries, two routes are broken down into 40-60 minute sections of delivery that can be performed at the same time. These are known as loops or bursts. Normally loops are planned so that both individuals arrive back at the van at the same time and any waiting time is minimised. They can then complete another pair or delivery loops either from the same location or from another parking point. In some cases the driver’s loop is designed to finish back at the vehicle whilst the passenger finishes at the next parking point

Where the hell has the idea of "weight off the shoulder" gone, even using a golf trolley won't help with such large loops.

Same as our office, we started van sharing/HCT deliveries 2 weeks ago, been a nightmare from the start, ill planned, ill thought idea that is unworkable, alot of rounds not being completed

Are you saying you've had a CDV revision implemented with no input from the staff? Our planner is asking for as many of us as possible to look at the walks and to change what isn't workable. It's no guarantee things will be perfect but at least it's a start and they are sticking to the agreement.

Sounds like the same old RM, people in different offices may as well be working for different companies.

hows this for planning then our lino thinks hes got a plan all the tracked items, large parcels, specials etc get done by the driver while the walking man (sorry non driver ) carries on delivery on foot wtf.
i dont think so i mention fair workload ie d2ds length of walking span etc
