Q. What happens to cycles removed as a result of the new delivery methods? Can our people buy them for a nominal fee?


A. Cycles that are made surplus will be redeployed to other offices, not yet adopting Delivery Methods, to allow the disposal of cycles reaching the end of their normal lifespan.

It’s Royal Mail policy that cycles are not donated or sold to RMG staff, members of the public or other organisations for reuse or resale within the UK. Surplus cycles no longer required for operational use will be donated to the charity "Re-cycle" who supplies them for use in Africa.
If they are unfit for use they are disposed of by scrapping.

Royal Mail supports the Cycle2Work scheme; staff interested in using a cycle to get to and from work can get a new bicycle and cycling safety equipment through the Cycle2Work scheme. I wouldn't mind my bike, am rather fond of it :/ Instead it will end up in africa where some poor chap will be riding it around on it's rims :(

Back in the day we used them for 2nd deliveries where you had a "double 2nd" In other words your own 2nd and a part timers.

When the bikes were no longer any good we used to put sealed bids in an envelope and the highest bid won (and paid) for the bike. Ahh well. Better Africa get them I guess
