I'm writing this on behalf on my partner, hes a postie in royal mail, been doing his job a couple of years, but having terrible grief from his line manager, she basically bullies him. he requests annual leave but is always denied it, even when there are spaces available to take it, he has gone to compromise with her and said well you tell me when i can have annual leave but she never gets back to him.
Her communication to him is awful, she speaks to him like he is a child and has reduced to him to tears. He is a sub so hes aware he can moved to different offices but he never seems to know till the morning of the delivery to me that just seems wrong, as he has no chance to find out where the office(s) are and do a bit of planning etc....
Also he is constantly short payed this week they are looking at owing him 74 hrs through all the back log of short weeks adding up. the hours sheet are filled in correctly but never right wage.
If anyone can give me some advice on what to do it would be really grateful.
Please dont tell me this is the norm for royal mail managers to treat their staff..
Thanks
Laura

Not the norm but increasingly common....laura29 wrote:I'm writing this on behalf on my partner, hes a postie in royal mail, been doing his job a couple of years, but having terrible grief from his line manager, she basically bullies him. he requests annual leave but is always denied it, even when there are spaces available to take it, he has gone to compromise with her and said well you tell me when i can have annual leave but she never gets back to him.

He needs to file a grievance and/or bullying and harassment complaint. Keep a diary of everything that's been said. Personally, I'd go for the B&H form given what you've said. If she's making him feel like sh*te as well as just being generally obstructive then it needs sorting.
Good luck :)

Is he in the union?
If so he needs to speak to his rep.

Re: Need advice please!!
It will continue if he allows it too by doing or saying nothing, procedures are in place for this sort of thing he needs to read up on them himself.Yeah ask rep for help if in union but he kneeds to know score himself and be able to stand up for himself that way he is in control of his own situation and not reliant on others for everything.
If he just asks Dom for copy of B&H procedure without stating reasons why(Dom has to provide procedure) this will probably get Dom a little nervous and think about her behaviour at least if not at least he will know options available to him if behaviour doesn't improve and he feels the need to take action.
HE MUST DOCUMENT instances where he feels B&H and preferably have witnesses cause will be very difficult to win or prove case against a manager.
Only he knows or can decide what is best route to take none are easy, put up with it or take action.

Re: Need advice please!!
Get your hubbie to put some holiday dates that he would like in writing, preferably at least 3 different dates.
Try and make sure those dates are at least 4 weeks from the letter.
At the end of the letter put in the following. "I am contracted to work for Royal Mail and part of the contract includes x amount of holidays per year. If I do not hear from you in writing within 14 days then I will have to send another letter to the area manager asking for holidays and citing the reason that I am writing to them.
As regards your hubbie not knowing which office he is working at. He should appear at his own delivery office each morning at his start time. If the dom tells him he is meant to be at another DO then he should request a lift there and back within his working time. If they give him at least a weeks warning that he is to attend another DO then he can get organised if that is what he wants to do or he can still show up at his DO and get a lift there and back.
He does need to put in a grievance against his dom for her sh*t attitude. If he is speaking to her again, get him to take a witness in with him and he will be pleasantly surprised at her behaviour then.
Good luck.

The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

Re: Need advice please!!
Many thanks for all the advice given, really appreciate it have passed it on to the other half.
There was another incident this morning, he had gone to another DO to find mail left from Saturday which the manager in question should have delivered but only took a small amount surprise surprise!! he phoned to say he only wanted to work contracted hours today , he now has been told in future any overtime opportunities might be withdrawn from him just cause he wasn't prepared to take all that extra mail which was left, somehow i think this is completely unfair but because he knew liberties were being taken he chose to stand up and say he wasn't doing it!!
he has spoken to union reps who are going to help him sort these issues out, but on a personal note i seriously think the grievance route is the right path to go down this manager needs to be brought down a peg or two, i hope people agree with me on this one
many thanks again

Distusting behaviour - i feel for you and your other half, follow the advice from the people on here and keep your rep involved, if he seems to be treating this flippantly get the area rep involved.laura29 wrote:I'm writing this on behalf on my partner, hes a postie in royal mail, been doing his job a couple of years, but having terrible grief from his line manager, she basically bullies him. he requests annual leave but is always denied it, even when there are spaces available to take it, he has gone to compromise with her and said well you tell me when i can have annual leave but she never gets back to him.

Please note the word might, this I've heard a few times.Trust me it's tactic RM managers use to get staff(usually new starts)to do over time.
The manager is calling his bluff.Pretty sad really, never had this tactic in any other job I've done.
Other employers I've worked for ask if you mind doing overtime.
They might not give him overtime for a very short while, but trust me they will eventually beg him to do some.

I agree with Cyrus, now he has stood his ground once, and hopefuly more.....BOSSES will leave him alone and sadly move to some 1 else, which is wrong tho.....just work his hours....and no more.....and do the overtime when he wants 2.....not royal mail wanting him 2.....BULLYING TWATS.........HOPE HE SORTS THINGS OUT..

Re: Need advice please!!
Thanks for all the responses i have had for this, my partner has read all the comments left and it has put some confidence back in him, with the last comment about not doing overtime if possible.. The only problem to this is that he only has a 20hr contract so needs the extra hours to make his money up.. whoever dreamt these crappy part time contracts up wants their head looking at lol i wish personally in a way they would increase his hours cause he never does 20 hr more like 35 hrs and thats only average...
Thanks again :)
Laura
