Re: prepping RTS for MC?
No idea what any of that means... prepping the RTS for return to the MC to me means scribbling thru the address with a blue crayon, circling the return address with said blue crayon, putting them in a tray and putting them on a york to go to the MC. What you do with them after that is a magical mystery to mehubbahubba wrote:Are any D.O. posties prepping RTS to be sorted by IMPS in MC's?Just wondered as there is now a mode for running RTS thru the mech, and our office just started using this week?
The next day, I do the same thing with exactly the same RTS items because, for some reason, they've come back again...

Re: prepping RTS for MC?
RTS items would normally only be sent back to a DO if they aren't killed off properly (one of them red stickers filled in correctly (or a pink one if it's being returned abroad)).Aprilaydee wrote:No idea what any of that means... prepping the RTS for return to the MC to me means scribbling thru the address with a blue crayon, circling the return address with said blue crayon, putting them in a tray and putting them on a york to go to the MC. I can't see how RTS can be run through the mech, the machines would just pick up on the bar code printed by a machine when the item was first sent to a DO and sort it back to the DO.

That's why I said for some reason... they're already killed off before going into the deads box. If, for some reason they're not, they go back onto the delivery fitting for the postie to sort.SpacePhoenix wrote:RTS items would normally only be sent back to a DO if they aren't killed off properly (one of them red stickers filled in correctly (or a pink one if it's being returned abroad)).Aprilaydee wrote:No idea what any of that means... prepping the RTS for return to the MC to me means scribbling thru the address with a blue crayon, circling the return address with said blue crayon, putting them in a tray and putting them on a york to go to the MC. Re: prepping RTS for MC?
There is a new mode on the IMP sorting machines, the letters are put into the imp backwards(so the return address is at the front),and the IMP reads the return address, and ignores the original address and codemarks!(Im afraid to say it works as well!)SpacePhoenix wrote:RTS items would normally only be sent back to a DO if they aren't killed off properly (one of them red stickers filled in correctly (or a pink one if it's being returned abroad)).Aprilaydee wrote:No idea what any of that means... prepping the RTS for return to the MC to me means scribbling thru the address with a blue crayon, circling the return address with said blue crayon, putting them in a tray and putting them on a york to go to the MC. What sort of % of them (the properly killed off ones) have got a barcode on them which has been printed by a sorting machine?Aprilaydee wrote:

Re: prepping RTS for MC?
hubbahubba, do IMPs when normally looking for the address read both sides at the same time or just one side only?

Re: prepping RTS for MC?
there are 2 cameras that check for the address on either side, there are also CMR's(code mark readers). If an item comes through with code marks, the IMPS are configured to look for codemarks first,if they find them then the address is ignored as the machine has all the info it needs. This is why when someone puts an RTS letter back in a postbox,it often goes back to the orginal address,as no doubt many of you know!SpacePhoenix wrote:hubbahubba, do IMPs when normally looking for the address read both sides at the same time or just one side only?

Re: prepping RTS for MC?
We manually sort all the RTS in my DO so it is sent to the MC in bundles for each postcode in alphabetical order.

Some RTS seem to go round in circles indefinitely.Aprilaydee wrote:The next day, I do the same thing with exactly the same RTS items because, for some reason, they've come back again...
Best way to get round that seems to be to fold them so that they are non-machinable when they get back to
the MC and have to be sorted manually - though that might not necessarily mean they come out of the system,
as some staff who have not recieved any training might not know what they are.

Re: prepping RTS for MC?
On a related note, why do we sometimes see in MCs a killed off item returned by a DO when it is going to a return address covered by that very same DO?

I'm having to go through all the RTS stuff thats come back to my DO. I go out do the rehab duty and then I'm sat going through all that crap. The DOM told me last Monday to make a start.......only 2 f***ing yorks
So far I've cleared about 6 perstops so looks like I'll be doing them for another couple of months!

Thats easy:SpacePhoenix wrote:On a related note, why do we sometimes see in MCs a killed off item returned by a DO when it is going to a return address covered by that very same DO?
RTS is usually the last thing you do before bundling the delivery, or even waiting for the missorts just before release.
This means time is tight so you kill off automatically sorting into only flats/packets/letters and with return address or not, you tend not to notice the return address.
To be honest you don't have time in a DO to go through them all separating or sorting them. However, if I do notice one I sort it into the intra/local frame, only because I have a business on my delivery that gets 1 or 2 every day.

But then if the recipient of the RTS has already tied down, they won't want to take it. Far easier to do it the next day.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:To be honest you don't have time in a DO to go through them all separating or sorting them. Same with local redirections. Some people send them back to the MC because it is more convenient to deal with them the next day.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: prepping RTS for MC?
I always siphoned off the local RTS items in my old DO and put them out for delivery the next day.
Most posties don't look at the return address... hence why the dead sticker is usually stuck OVER it!!
Couldn't tell you how many of the RTS items have barcodes on them. Probably all of them.
Same problem with Missorts. I even go and put the correct code on, scribble thru the barcode and it comes back sometimes 2, 3 days in a row.
