Anybody heard about Enviromental officer role in RML?

My DOM mentioned it last week.

Had some more info today and yesterday, the job title is enviromental champion and Ive volunteered to take on the role.

Ive a 3 hour workshop to attend at the MC next week.


Relevant CWU HQ bods are aware and would like to try and link this up with their climate solidarity work.

If RM started asking people who use their cars on Deliveries how much C02 (g/Km), their cars produce. And take that into account, when they're making claims about being Green (yeh, right! ). Then I'd take such a role seriously. But at the moment, it's just a PR excercise. If they were serious about Green issues, they wouldn't hide a significant soure of C02, in their figures!

This is just more lip service for RM to pay towards something they don't really care about. Like Health and Safety.

While ive got hold of the role it will be a lot more than just lip service, I shall be taking RM on like a rampaging bull.

The question is do RM apporach thier CO2 foot print on a group basis or a sectional basis

Im a bit worried that cuts in CO2 elsewhere in RM Group are used to to jusitfy shared vans in RM Letters.

A CO2 audit of current van use and authorised personal car use in all parts of the group would be good with a policy to reduce that in all parts of the group. Local reps could be used to get a idea of non authorised use to add the audit.

It wasn't a dig at you at all. It's purely RM pretending, once again, that they care. So they can win awards for pretending to make a difference and so everyone thinks they're brilliant.

The problem is Big Daz. That despite the fact that there will be people like you, who take the role seriously. RM will find ways to spin the figures. What we need, is for the CWU. Or better still, and independent group. To assess RM's supposedly Green credentials.

Whilst delivering half a rain forest disguised as d/d's, and choking on the fumes of all the vans getting ready to leave in the mornings,I cannot take this role seriously. It's a talk shop, nothing more.And the Union has better things they could be spending our money on.
