Bundled Revision due in October
I am heavily involved in bringing in a 'bundled revision' for a relatively small office of 30 deliveries and about 40 staff. IWT shows that we need to take out about 25 hours which I can accept as when we get sequenced mail I believe our double preppers will be able to murder the 14 items a minute that it is giving us so cannot argue with that one. My problem is that our delivery methods revision seems to be showing that we can go down to about 23 deliveries, based on shared van duties being 4:20 span 33 hour contract spans being 4:10 and the rest being 3:45 has anybody else got this problem and how do I go about showing my DOM that this is not possible. The members will lynch me if I agree to this but the DOM has been upfront with all the tools so far and we have checked our own walks on the pegasus system and they seem to be including everything. I can't believe that switching from bikes to vans and HCTs will reduce the number of walks. Any help will be gratefully received is there something glaringly obvious we are missing?

Hi first get release and sit down with your planner, go through it stage by stage then if your still not happy get your area rep involved and dont forget to include your h&s rep, at each stage get your dom to address the staff let him take the flak, i sat down with our planner today what a mess he has made.

I thought 12 items a minute was 100 BSI and that was an issue and had to be slowly worked to as an office over the three year plan, your starting at fourteen a minute?

Having longer delivery spans and the CDV's will cut down on duties in any office.
I'm guessing you are losing drives as well?
When CDV's come to my office we estimate we will lose 3 van duties straight away if it goes the way we think it would.
This is the future.

Re: Bundled Revision due in October
Difficult to say without the specifics of the office, but one thing to watch for is double-counting the same hours, it's a favourite revision mistake.
eg sequenced mail will save you all fifteen mins per day.
That means you can save X number of hours of prep.
Making the spans longer pushes back into what was prep time (you can do a longer span in an 8hr day because you have less indoor work)
So I've managed to 'save' the same fifteen minutes twice thanks to walk sequencing, but hang on, the working week gets shorter, so suddenly what's happened to a full time working day is:
+15mins work from walk sequence savings
+15mins work on longer span (also from ws savings)
-15mins time in your working day through shorter working week (lets assume 4 day week to keep the numbers simple)
So even with ws saving you fifteen mins per day, you've ended up with 15 mins too much work!

The solution is to explain the revison to the mbrs when its done, tell the DOM your not accepting anything unless the mbrs give you a mandate via a democratic workplace ballot.

Re: Bundled Revision due in October
The only problem with that solution as you well know Daz is that you have to have a good sound reason for rejecting a revision, not just because the members don't like the look of it.....members don't like the look of anything that means they will be working 1 minute longer than they are now.Big Daz wrote:Jessica

If jessicarabbit cannot show the members exactly why they have to lose 7 duties they will feel that she is being rail-roaded by management.
These are difficult times for reps, these efficiency based bundled revisions are vicious and will cut your office to the bone if your not careful.
It's time to hunt in every nook and cranny for any work you can find to hold onto as many jobs as you can.
New development,Tracked items and packets have been our saviour as they haven't been properly resourced for years in our place.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: Bundled Revision due in October
I consider rejection from members as suitable to be classed a reasoned response when saying no, the rep is a representative of the membership so if mbrs say no the rep represents that to management.
Thats the way I work, I sign and agree to nowt if its been rejected in a ballot and that is a track record I intend to keep.
The DOM accepts that I can not say yes if a proposal has been rejected in a ballot.

If the only reason you can put forward for delaying the revision is the members don't want it with no alternatives forthcoming then the decision will simply be taken from your hands and placed in the hands of your area rep because...
The union cannot be seen to condone widespread stalling tactics Daz...that is the reality of the situation we are facing. Both parties are fully committed to all elements of this national agreement and neither will sanction any local negotiations which seek to change the principles or spirit of this agreement and/or make their deployment less effective and/or delay implementation.

In a nutshell, no is no longer in the CWU vocabulary. You can say no, the members can say no, but the man from RM, he say yes and then implements it.

it is so refreshing to hear of another office having a full say via membership .jessica in our office we feel under represented the rep has lost interestBig Daz wrote:I consider rejection from members as suitable to be classed a reasoned response when saying no, the rep is a representative of the membership so if mbrs say no the rep represents that to management.

Mr fishtank
There is no point then in holding a ballot of members for revision activty under this agreement, however operational issues not related to infinty and beyond do crop up and sometimes will be dealt with via way of a local ballot and if the mbrs say no I say no. In that situation resitance is not futile and the Borg Queen and Locutus will not have my surrender!!!!!

Re: Bundled Revision due in October
Same as us. Rep rejected our revisions as the area manager is right one. Starting at 100bsi and no ring fence for the time it takes an office to leave a building using one lift.
Our office is that bad our rep resigned and the area rep doesn't give a toss.
Area rep says, i'll sign it all off no problem. Membership is totally against it as we are really flat out with cdv's and all the packets we get on top of our delivery, plus d2d's, plus extra on collapsed rounds. Managers answer to going over your time is to make you come in later the next day and not claim ot. If you work your contractual hours, managers bully you and prep test the members. Then they give you a meeting on why you are too slow, or move you to another section.
Well this is what's happening at our office
