How late?

How late can I be out on delivery?

What are the rules?

Say for example I had to break off my delivery to go and do something could I do it and then come back and complete my walk?

Theoretically I reckon as long as everything that needed the customer was delivered (specials / recordeds / packets) I could come back and finish the walk later.

Or would this be an absolute no, no?

If you have to break off you must inform your manager that you are in essence leaving your place of work...anything else will be his decision and his head on the block.

As a one off it would be no problem as long as the Manager gave the OK - yes you would need to check with him/her.

However, repeated and or regular instances would be a no-no I believe as RMs own delivery specifications I think impose a time limit of 2.00pm Towns and 3.00pm rurals and constant failures can result in questions for the manager to answer from his own bosses. I also think the managers have to report failures, the reasons and the solutions every day.

Actually No - The USO merely states that a system must in place for a delivery to all 28,000,000 addresses in the UK Monday to Saturday. No specific time is stipulated. Royal Mail’s own delivery time specification permits (2pm in urban areas and 3pm in rural areas

we got told that if royal mail wanted we could deliver up to 23.59 oclock as a first class item is for anytime the next day

We have 2 who are regularly out till 5pm.
We once had a customer turn up with a 739 timed at 7.40pm.
No-one at RM seems to care at all.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Thats what I wondered. You get the old "You're late today postie" when you turn up at 2pm but surely we have until 23.59 to deliver that days mail!

2PM TOWN 3PM RURAL but will change with CDV's.

Yes, I've gone off to attend a funeral returning to finish the round a couple of hours later than usual and thinking of all those at the wake. :sad: :sad:

Just go and do whatever you have to do, as long as the mail is in a secure place (pouch box or whatever) and finish it after. And obviously don't claim!

its your discretion, say you are doing overtime if people ask, security of mail is important.
