Heard today that when these Postman Pat cars come in to force posties be aware, the DOM, is asking you to sign a piece of paper saying your willing to drive for RM, but what he is not telling you that if you’re a regular on a morning duty and a evening van driver throws a sickie and you have done a change over they will try fob you off on a evening duty.
Also they want you to sign that you will bring the car home and have it in a safe place, if its damage over night you are responsible and its conduct code road.
Be very careful what you sign, I know you want out of the office quick to do your walk, but READ FIRST….

That part at least is not true.
Before you can take a van home you will have a risk assessment done on your parking facilities.
If RM decide it is safe for overnight retention and you follow the assessment guidelines..i.e. park it where you supposed to and make sure it is secure you will not be held liable for any damage that occurs.
We already have overnight retention and vans have been damaged but no action has been taken.

No you don't pay any more tax because it is primarily for travelling to and from work it is not classed as a perk.

As to your second question.....

• A pre-agreed contingency driver would collect the vehicle on their way into the office. This person would live as close, as possible, to the person retaining the vehicle, or would pass their home en-route into work
• As a last resort, 2 drivers in a van would need to recover the vehicle during inward sortation

Planned absence

For planned absence, managers would have a menu of options:

• The original retainer could take the vehicle home, with the same contingency arrangements applied as for unplanned absence
• The shared van partner could take the vehicle home if they were due in the next day (subject to security arrangements being checked at their home)
• If neither of the shared van pair were in the next day due to rest days (an arrangement best avoided for the reasons outlined above), then the van could be returned to office for retention by another individual

Just to clear up a few points here, they call them the park and loop cars in my office, not the Vans that drop your bags and do collections at present?
Plus the private cars are going to be removed from the DO car parks, RM does not have to cater for a car park for your private use.
People who have a licence has more priority over the ones that has no licence, therefore we were told the ones that don’t have a licence and the ones that do have a licence but REFUSE to drive MAY be shipped to other offices…
